Connor McDavid was back in the Edmonton Oilers' lineup on Tuesday night after missing the past three months with a broken clavicle, and he wasted no time reminding the hockey world why he is going to be the next great player in the NHL.

McDavid broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period when he scored his sixth goal of the season on a play that will almost certainly be one of the best that you see in the NHL this year.

Just watch this masterpiece unfold.  

He made that look effortless as he skated through the entire Columbus Blue Jackets defense and then deked goaltender Joonas Korpisalo out of his pads for the finish.

If he didn't miss three months with an injury he would have probably been the NHL's leading candidate for the rookie of the year based on the way he was playing at the start of the year, averaging close to a point per game for a struggling Oilers team. If he maintains his current 0.93 points per game average for the rest of the year (31 games after Tuesday) he is probably still going to have a chance to finish near the top of the rookie scoring. 

The Oilers have had a lot of No. 1 overall picks in recent years, but none of them have the potential to change the franchise like McDavid does.
