  • Stars' Antti Niemi: May see reduced work next season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/11/17) The Stars traded for the rights to Ben Bishop on Tuesday, signaling that Niemi will see backup duty at best next season.

Whether or not the team is able to sign Bishop to a new contract, it's a signal that general manager Jim Nill is no longer happy with the tandem of Niemi and Kari Lehtonen. Niemi's value will plummet if Bishop signs a deal with Dallas.

Stars' Antti Niemi: Gets benched Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/6/17) Niemi was pulled from Thursday's start against the Predators after yielding two goals on eight shots.

Niemi had allowed two goals in each of his prior two starts, but coach Lindy Ruff may have sensed a long night ahead, and that's precisely what it was for the Stars, who have been a mess both defensively and between the pipes for most of the season. Kari Lehtonen replaced Niemi in this latest contest, only to watch the puck travel past him five times on 28 shots. The Stars will bid adieu to their 2016-17 campaign with a home clash against the Avalanche on Saturday.

Stars' Antti Niemi: Gets starting nod for Thursday's contest

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/6/17) Niemi will guard the cage in Thursday's home game against the Predators.

Niemi was solid in his last start Tuesday against Arizona, stopping 24 of the 26 shots he faced en route to a 3-2 overtime victory. The Finnish netminder will look to stay dialed in and pick up his 13th win of the season in a middling home matchup with a Predators club that's averaging 2.54 goals per game on the road this season, 15th in the NHL.

Stars' Antti Niemi: Allows two goals in Tuesday's OT win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/5/17) Niemi allowed just two goals on 26 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win against the Coyotes.

Niemi has been poor on the road and surprisingly decent at home, posting a 10-4-2 record at American Airlines Center. The good news for fantasy owners and DFS players is that both of the Stars' remaining games are on home ice.

Stars' Antti Niemi: Receives starting nod Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/4/17) Niemi has been named the starting netminder for Tuesday's matchup with Arizona, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Despite Niemi's horrendous full-season marks of a 11-12-4 record, 3.31 GAA, and .892 save percentage, he's actually been fairly good at home in 2016-17. In 20 outings at the American Airlines Center, Niemi is 9-4-2 with a 2.62 GAA and .912 save percentage. That said, the 2010 Stanley Cup champion will face a tough test Tuesday as he'll be running into a scorching Jets team that's won seven of their last nine games.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Bryan Lerg waited a long time to make his NHL debut. It was worth it.
April 4, 2015: Sharks Turn To Niemi
Niemi will start Saturday against the Coyotes, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.Alex Stalock is fighting through an illness while Niemi is coming off a nice 20-of-21 save start Friday after coming off an illness of his own, so the Sharks will turn to him again. Any start against the Coyotes is a good one daily formats, up and down as Niemi has been this season.
April 4, 2015: Sharks' Niemi Prevails Friday
Niemi grabbed the win against Arizona on Friday, stopping 20 of 21 shots in a 3-1 victory.Although it was against the West's resident cellar dwellers, this was a nice win for Niemi, who had sat out the previous three games with an illness. Backup Alex Stalock is reportedly dealing with an illness now, so it's conceivable that Niemi will start again Saturday against the very same Coyotes. Stay tuned.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) With each win, the challenge of getting back to the playoffs gets slightly more realistic for the San Jose Sharks even if they still need plenty of outside help to get there.
