Top Blue Jackets News

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Logs two power-play helpers

Severson notched two power-play assists, three shots on goal and four PIM in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.

Severson has three helpers over the last four games. He's getting a bit better usage than usual to help cover the absence of Zach Werenski (lower body). Severson has earned 12 points (four on the power play), 42 shots on net, 28 hits, 35 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a plus-2 rating over 36 appearances in a top-four role this year.

  • Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko: Strikes on power play

Marchenko scored a power-play goal on two shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.

Marchenko's tally ended a four-game slide for the winger. The 25-year-old could see his ice time dip a bit after the Blue Jackets acquired Mason Marchment from the Kraken on Friday, but there should still be plenty of room for Marchenko to make a regular impact on offense. For the season, he's produced 11 goals, 27 points (11 on the power play), 94 shots on net, 28 hits and a plus-3 rating over 32 appearances.

  • Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment: Scores two PP goals

Marchment scored two power-play goals in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.

Marchment came through every time the Blue Jackets needed him, and the left winger is enjoying an excellent start to his Columbus tenure with three goals in his first two games with the team. Expect Marchment to continue in a top-six role with Columbus, giving him plenty of opportunities to keep producing even if he's bound to regress in his scoring ways sooner rather than later.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Excellent vs. Kings

Greaves stopped 23 of 24 shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Kings.

Greaves was beaten by Andrei Kuzmenko in the second period, but that would be the only goal he'd end up allowing in a dominant outing. This was a huge bounce-back performance for the 24-year-old netminder, who was coming off three straight outings with a save percentage below the .890 mark. On the season, Greaves owns a 9-9-5 record through 23 starts, posting a 2.69 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

  • Blue Jackets' Luca Del Bel Belluz: Returned to minors

Del Bel Belluz was reassigned to AHL Cleveland on Tuesday.

Del Bel Belluz was promoted under emergency conditions, but with the Jackets off until Sunday's clash with the Islanders, the forward wasn't needed on the NHL roster anymore. Despite the demotion, the 22-year-old Ontario native could be brought back up prior to the clash with New York and fill out a bottom-six role for the club.

  • Blue Jackets' Mathieu Olivier: Making progress in recovery

Olivier (upper body) is expected to join the team for Saturday's full practice, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Portzline relayed that it is unclear if Olivier will be cleared for contact Saturday, as the right-shot winger has mostly been skating on his own. The 28-year-old has previously joined the team for optional morning skates, so he's seemingly progressing toward making his return to the lineup. The Mississippi native has been out of action since Nov. 26. Olivier will probably serve on the third line once he receives the green light to suit up.

  • Blue Jackets' Miles Wood: Set to return Monday

Wood (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup for Monday's game against the Kings, Dave Maetzold of FanDuel Sports Network reports.

Wood missed Saturday's game against the Ducks due to his lower-body injury, but he'll be able to return to action following a minimal absence. Over nine appearances this month, he's logged two goals, two assists, 17 hits, four PIM and three blocked shots while averaging 14:47 of ice time.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Patrolling crease versus Kings

Greaves will defend the cage on the road against Los Angeles on Monday, Dave Maetzold of FanDuel Sports Network reports.

Greaves has managed just one victory in his last nine outings, posting a 1-5-3 record despite a 2.85 GAA. Given his solid ratios, the 24-year-old backstop should continue to see the majority of the starts for Columbus, though the club may try to showcase Elvis Merzlikins in the hopes of securing a trade.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Not playing Monday

Werenski (lower body) won't play against the Kings on Monday.

Werenski is day-to-day and will miss at least one game after sustaining an injury in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Anaheim. He has accumulated 14 goals, 40 points, 132 shots on net and 52 blocked shots across 35 appearances this season. Due to Werenski's absence, Jake Christiansen will likely be in the lineup for Monday's contest.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Considered day-to-day

Werenski (lower body) is day-to-day, according to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic on Sunday.

Werenski might miss Monday's matchup against the Kings, but he could be back shortly after the holiday break. He didn't suffer any broken bones after blocking a shot late in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Anaheim. Werenski has amassed 14 goals, 40 points, 132 shots on net and 52 blocked shots across 35 appearances this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Dmitri Voronkov: Tallies on power play in loss

Voronkov scored a power-play goal on four shots in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.

Voronkov got the Blue Jackets on the board at 5:54 of the first period, answering an early pair of Ducks goals. The 25-year-old's standing in the lineup is in trouble, however -- the acquisition of Mason Marchment on Friday led to a shuffle that put Voronkov on the third line. Voronkov has slowed down lately but still has five points and 17 shots over his last eight outings. He's at 13 goals, 23 points, 68 shots, 53 hits, 42 PIM and an even plus-minus rating through 35 appearances. Voronkov and Marchment profile similarly as physical wingers, and along with Boone Jenner, someone will get the short end of the stick on left wing in Columbus. Don't drop Voronkov yet, but be ready to pivot to other options if his production slides.

  • Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment: Scores in team debut

Marchment scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.

Marchment was set to be in San Jose for the Kraken's game versus the Sharks, but he traveled a little farther south to link up with the Blue Jackets in Anaheim after being traded Friday. He immediately stepped into a top-line role and delivered a second-period tally in his Columbus debut. The winger is up to five goals, 14 points, 49 shots on net, 39 hits, 28 PIM and a minus-4 rating through 30 appearances this season. He may be a better fit for the Blue Jackets, but he's got some work to do to generate widespread interest in fantasy.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Loses to Ducks

Merzlikins allowed four goals on 28 shots in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.

Merzlikins made just his second start in the last seven games, but he didn't have a great performance. He never had a lead to protect, but he allowed a late goal to Pavel Mintyukov that decided the game. Merzlikins has allowed 14 goals on 73 shots over his last three outings, and he hasn't looked all that good in his most recent wins either. Merzlikins is 6-6-1 with a 4.04 GAA and an .877 save percentage in 14 starts. The only thing keeping him in the mix for regular playing time is that fact that Jet Greaves has failed to run away with the starting job so far, but Greaves' numbers are still far better than what Merzlikins has shown. The Blue Jackets' next game is Monday versus the Kings.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Leaves late after shot block

Werenski sustained an apparent lower-body injury on a blocked shot in Saturday's game versus the Ducks, and there was no update on his status after the contest, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Werenski had to crawl off the ice and needed assistance getting to the locker room, so there is at least moderate concern with this injury. Prior to getting hurt, he picked up a goal and an assist Saturday, giving him five goals and five helpers during his five-game point streak. The defenseman's status for Monday's game versus the Kings is up in the air pending further evaluation, but an absence of any length would be a significant blow to Columbus' blue line.

  • Blue Jackets' Miles Wood: Late scratch Saturday

Wood won't play Saturday in Anaheim due to a lower-body injury.

Wood has eight goals and 12 points in 28 appearances this season. Luca Del Bel Belluz will be in the lineup against the Ducks because of Wood's absence.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Set to start Saturday

Merzlikins will protect the road goal versus the Ducks on Saturday, Ducks PA Announcer Phil Hulett reports.

Merzlikins was pulled from his last start Dec. 11 versus the Senators, and he hasn't seen the crease since. That will change with this contest, though it's a tough matchup for Merzlikins. The Ducks have scored 13 goals over their last five games, going 1-3-1 in that span, but they still have a top-tier offense that could pose a challenge for Merzlikins.

  • Blue Jackets' Ivan Fedotov: Claims second AHL shutout

Fedotov posted an 18-save shutout in AHL Cleveland's 2-0 win over Laval on Saturday.

Fedotov picked up his fourth in a row, and he's allowed just four goals on 85 shots in that span. This was his first shutout since his AHL debut, which was Oct. 10. The netminder is 8-6-2 with a 2.33 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 16 games, and he'd likely get a call-up if Elvis Merzlikins or Jet Greaves were to become unavailable for the Blue Jackets.
