Top Avalanche News

  • Avalanche's Zakhar Bardakov: No place in lineup

Bardakov was scratched for the sixth straight game in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Mammoth.

Bardakov was a regular while the Avalanche were trying to get to full health earlier in the year, but the 24-year-old has lost his place with the team missing just Logan O'Connor (hip) up front. Bardakov will have to wait for more players to be absent before he can add to his totals of five points, 16 shots on net and 22 hits in 25 games this season.

  • Avalanche's Samuel Girard: Scores winning goal Tuesday

Girard scored a goal in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Utah.

Girard provided all the offense of the game with an unassisted goal at the 7:57 mark of the second period with a backhander. It was his second goal of the season and his eighth point in 21 appearances. He also has 18 shots on net and 23 blocked shots.

  • Avalanche's Scott Wedgewood: Posts 32-save shutout

Wedgewood posted a 32-save shutout in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Mammoth.

The Avalanche have won 13 home games in a row, and Wedgewood delivered an impressive performance to keep that streak alive. He has earned two shutouts this season, with the previous coming against the Blackhawks on Nov. 23 in a 1-0 road win. The 33-year-old netminder has won his last three outings and has posted a save percentage of .900 or higher in each of his past seven appearances.

  • Avalanche's Scott Wedgewood: Set to start versus Utah

Wedgewood is expected to tend the twine at home against the Mammoth on Tuesday, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reports.

Wedgewood hasn't suffered a regulation loss in his last 13 outings, posting a 10-0-2 with a 1.90 GAA and one shutout. The Avs look set to continue to rotate their backstops, limiting Wedgewood's fantasy value. Still, with the strong supporting cast around him, Wedgewood figures to continue piling up wins.

  • Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Chips in two helpers Sunday

Nichushkin registered two assists and put three shots on net in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Wild.

Nichushkin picked up a secondary helper on both of the Avalanche's goals in the third period, including Nathan MacKinnon's empty-netter. With the pair of apples, Nichushkin is up to 13 assists, 21 points, 67 shots on goal and 24 hits through 27 games this season. Since his return from a lower-body injury on Dec. 2, the 30-year-old winger has been a consistent name on the scoresheet with nine points over 10 outings. If he can stay healthy, Nichushkin should continue to see top-six minutes moving forward, making him a viable option in most fantasy formats.

  • Avalanche's Brock Nelson: Tallies trio of points

Nelson tallied a goal, distributed two assists and recorded two shots on goal in Sunday's 5-1 win over Minnesota.

Nelson slid the primary helper on both of Colorado's power-play goals in the second period before he scored at even strength in the third. With Sunday's three-point effort, the 34-year-old center is up to 14 goals, 11 assists, 70 shots on net and 29 blocked shots through 35 games this season. After a sluggish start to the season with five points through 16 games, he has been incredibly consistent since mid-November with 11 goals and 20 points in his last 19 outings. The 13-year NHL veteran is a lock to see top-six minutes on a dangerous Avalanche offense moving forward, giving him solid fantasy value in most formats while he attempts to secure a roster spot for Team USA at the upcoming Olympics.

  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Reaches 30-goal mark Sunday

MacKinnon scored two goals, put four shots on net and dished out two hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Wild.

MacKinnon first lit the lamp on a power play in the opening period before grabbing his second goal of the contest on Minnesota's empty net. The pair of tallies elevated the 30-year-old center's total to 30 goals this season to go along with 61 points, 161 shots on net, 28 hits and 21 blocked shots through 35 outings. He used Sunday's contest to elevate his lead over Boston's Morgan Geekie in the Rocket Richard Trophy race by five goals. While Edmonton's Connor McDavid surpassed MacKinnon in points Sunday, the latter likely remains ahead in the Hart Trophy conversation with the Avalanche leading the league at 26-2-7. MacKinnon is on pace for an unreal total of 70 goals and 142 points, and while that level of goal-scoring would be tough to maintain, the second 140-plus point season of his career wouldn't be a shocking outcome if he stays healthy.

  • Avalanche's Gabriel Landeskog: Records two helpers in win

Landeskog recorded two assists, including one on the power play, fired four shots on net, served two PIM and had four hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over Minnesota.

Landeskog chipped in with a helper on two of Colorado's first three goals, including one on Cale Makar's power-play tally in the second period. With the pair of helpers, Landeskog is up to 12 assists, 18 points, 75 shots on net and 53 hits through 35 games this season. The 33-year-old forward has remained a steady fantasy option over the last five contests with four points, 15 shots on net, 12 hits and five blocks. He is one of the Avalanche's strongest category coverage forwards in fantasy, giving him an added boost on top of his offensive potential while playing top-line minutes alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas. Landeskog is a solid option in most standard leagues moving forward.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Adds three points in win

Makar scored a power-play goal, earned two assists and fired seven shots on net in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Wild.

Makar had a hand in all three goals scored by Colorado across the first two periods of Sunday's contest. He assisted the tallies scored by Martin Necas and Nathan MacKinnon before scoring himself on a power play late in the second. With the three-point effort, Makar is up to 11 goals, 32 assists, 105 shots on net and 61 blocks through 35 appearances this season. Sunday's performance came after just his fourth scoreless outing since the start of November. Makar remains the undisputed top blueliner to have in fantasy and is currently on pace for the century mark in points, which would be a new career high if he can continue his current level of production.

  • Avalanche's Martin Necas: Nets opening goal Sunday

Necas scored a goal on three shots and dished out two hits in Sunday's 5-1 win over Minnesota.

Necas sparked the Avalanche's offense with his goal late in the first period. After Sunday's performance, he is up to 16 goals, 47 points, 77 shots on net and 34 hits through 35 games this season. The 26-year-old forward has 19 points in his last 13 outings and remains one of the top players to roster in any fantasy format this season. He has also begun to average a higher number of shots on net per game with 31 during his previous 13 outings. Necas is on pace to obliterate his current career high of 83 points in 79 regular-season games, set in 2024-25. He has a good chance to surpass the century mark this season if Colorado's offense continues to roll.

  • Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Excels in net Sunday

Blackwood turned aside 28 of 29 shots on goal in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Wild.

Blackwood thrived in Sunday's contest, as he allowed just one even-strength goal at 5:15 of the third period. With the win, he is up to an 11-1-1 record with a .924 save percentage and a 2.16 GAA across 13 appearances this season. Sunday's victory brought the 29-year-old's win streak up to five games. Very few netminders across the league have been better than Blackwood when he is healthy, as he currently ranks third in save percentage and fifth in GAA among goalies who have appeared in at least 10 games this season. He and Scott Wedgewood are a true one-two punch in net for Colorado, giving both elite fantasy value in all league formats. Blackwood will likely rest Tuesday versus the Mammoth before having a solid chance to play Saturday against the Golden Knights if the Avalanche continue their goalie rotation through the holiday break.

  • Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Starting against Minnesota

Blackwood will start Sunday's road game against Minnesota, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.

Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood have alternated starts over the past two weeks, and that trend will continue during Sunday's matchup. Blackwood is in the midst of a four-game personal winning streak in which he's posted a 2.22 GAA and .922 save percentage.

  • Avalanche's Ilya Solovyov: Back from conditioning loan

Solovyov was recalled from his conditioning stint with AHL Colorado on Sunday.

Solovyov didn't post a point in three minor-league appearances during his conditioning loan. He also hasn't reached the scoresheet in nine NHL outings this season while posting nine shots on net, 15 blocked shots and 11 hits.

  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Two assists, fight in win

Manson logged two assists, two hits, five PIM and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 3-2 win over the Jets.

Manson had primary helpers on goals by Brent Burns and Parker Kelly, and he managed to fit in a fight with Tanner Pearson between those assists. The 34-year-old Manson's toughness has come with a bit more offense in December -- he's earned eight assists over nine outings this month. That won't last for the rest of the season, but the Avalanche's strong team offense could allow him to get involved somewhat regularly. Manson is up to 12 points, 45 shots on net, 88 hits, 45 blocked shots, 41 PIM and a plus-25 rating over 34 appearances, which is production that could help in deeper fantasy formats.

  • Avalanche's Parker Kelly: Pots goal in win

Kelly scored a goal, added six hits and went plus-2 in Friday's 3-2 win over the Jets.

Kelly ended a five-game slump with his tally. He has two goals over nine contests in December, but his chances on offense remain fairly limited from a fourth-line role. The 26-year-old defensive forward is up to seven goals, 13 points, 50 shots on net, 72 hits, 21 blocked shots and a plus-11 rating over 34 appearances. He needs just one more goal to match his career high from each of the last two campaigns.

  • Avalanche's Brent Burns: Riding six-game point streak

Burns scored a goal and went plus-2 in Friday's 3-2 win over the Jets.

Burns opened the scoring at 9:45 of the first period with a shot through traffic that deflected in off a Jet. The 40-year-old defenseman is on a six-game point streak with two goals and four assists, as well as a plus-nine rating, in that span. He's at five goals, 19 points, 69 shots on net, 44 blocked shots and a plus-21 rating over 34 appearances, serving as an ideal depth blueliner in his first year with the Avalanche.
