Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Big game puts him in record book
Malkin scored two goals, including the game-winner late in the third period, and had an assist in a 4-3 victory over the Lightning on Thursday.
Malkin broke the 3-3 tie late in the third with a one-timer from the low slot off a feed from Tommy Novak. It was his seventh career go-ahead goal in the final five minutes of regulation, tying Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby for the most in franchise history. Malkin also tied Bryan Trottier for the 10th-most assists with a single franchise (853).

Penguins' Joona Koppanen: Won't play Thursday
Koppanen (illness) is set to miss Thursday's game against Tampa Bay.
Koppanen has three assists in 16 outings in 2025-26. His next opportunity to play will come Sunday in Dallas, but Koppanen is sometimes a healthy scratch, so there's no guarantee he'll be in the lineup even if he's available.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Facing Lightning
Jarry will guard the road net in Tampa Bay on Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Jarry is 8-2-0 with a 2.57 GAA and a .911 save percentage across 11 games this season. He will make his fifth straight appearance, though he came on in relief Saturday against Toronto. The Lightning are eighth in NHL scoring, generating 3.27 goals per game.

Penguins' Rickard Rakell: Will miss at least three more weeks
Rakell's (hand) return timeline was updated Wednesday, and he is expected to return in 3-4 weeks.
Rakell is trending toward the latter half of his initial 6-8 week timeline, which came after he underwent surgery in late October. At this point, don't expect Rakell to be back prior to the holiday break. Once healthy, he'll likely fill a top-six role with ice time in all situations.

Penguins' Noel Acciari: Set to travel with team
Acciari (upper body) is expected to travel with Pittsburgh for its two-game road trip, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.
Acciari won't be an option for Thursday's clash with Tampa Bay, but the fact that he is traveling with the team could be an indication he's nearing a return. While Acciari won't offer much in terms of offensive upside after picking up just three helpers in 13 games this year, he should see plenty of minutes in a fourth-line role.

Penguins' Justin Brazeau: Traveling with team
Brazeau (upper body) will join the Penguins for their two-game road trip, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports Wednesday.
Brazeau could be close to returning from his 13-game absence due to his upper-body injury, though he hasn't been officially cleared to play. Prior to getting hurt, the 27-year-old winger was registering a point per game, racking up six goals and six helpers in 12 outings. Once Brazeau gets the green light, he should link back up with Evgeni Malkin on the second line.

Penguins' Joona Koppanen: Dealing with illness
Koppanen will not practice Wednesday due to an illness, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Koppanen was a healthy scratch against the Flyers on Monday, so his potential absence may not impact the Penguins' lineup versus the Lightning on Thursday. Still, if the 27-year-old winger is unable to travel with the team, it could force the club to bring up another forward from the minors to give Pittsburgh a healthy extra player for its two-game road trip.

Penguins' Thomas Novak: Buries power-play goal in win
Novak scored a power-play goal in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
Novak has three points over his last three games. He's been on the second line in recent contests, which could be a spot that allows him to maintain decent offense. He's more of a supporting player on this team with three goals, 10 points, 33 shots on net and a minus-3 rating over 25 appearances this season.

Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Pads lead Monday
Hayes scored a goal and added two hits in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
Hayes scored at 15:33 of the third period for the last goal in the game. The 33-year-old has received a look on the top line, recently, but that's likely to be a short-term gig if Rutger McGroarty can adjust to the NHL quickly. Hayes has two goals, four points, 17 shots on net, 12 hits and a plus-2 rating over his 10 appearances this season.

Penguins' Erik Karlsson: Two-point effort Monday
Karlsson collected two power-play assists in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
The 35-year-old blueliner helped break open a 1-1 tie in the second period by having a hand in tallies by Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. Karlsson cooled off considerably in November, and since his last multi-point performance Oct. 27, he'd managed just one goal -- his only tally of the season -- and six points in the 14 games prior to Monday's outburst.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Two helpers against Philly
Malkin notched two power-play assists in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
The Penguins scored three power-play goals in total on the night, with Malkin helping to set up tallies by Bryan Rust in the second period and Thomas Novak in the third. It was Malkin's first multi-point performance since Oct. 27, as he works to put a sluggish November (three goals and seven points in 12 games) behind him. On the season, the 39-year-old has six goals and 26 points in 25 contests.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Three points in big win
Rust scored a power-play goal and added two assists, one with the man advantage, in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
The veteran winger played a part in each of the Penguins' first three goals. It was Rust's third three-point performance of the season, and through 23 games, he's delivered eight goals and 21 points, including two goals and 10 points on the power play.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Strikes twice in win over Philly
Crosby scored two goals, one the game-winner on the power play, in Monday's 5-1 victory over Philadelphia.
No player has done as much damage against the Flyers as Crosby, who has 59 goals and 137 points in 92 career regular-season games against the Penguins' cross-state rivals. The future Hall of Famer is still going strong at age 38, and through 25 contests this season, Crosby's delivered 18 goals and 29 points. He also has another franchise record in his sights -- Crosby's 1,716 career points are just seven back of Mario Lemieux for the most all-time in Pittsburgh history.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Cruises to third straight win
Jarry turned aside 28 shots in Monday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
Philly did tie the game at 1-1 on a Tyson Foerster power-play tally early in the second period, but Jarry shut the door from there. The veteran netminder has won three straight starts since returning from a lower-body injury that cost him most of November, seizing the No. 1 job in the Pittsburgh crease back from Arturs Silovs by posting a 2.51 GAA and a .912 save percentage since rejoining the roster.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Starting against Philadelphia
Jarry was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports, indicating that he'll draw the road start against Philadelphia.
Jarry recently returned from a seven-game IR stint due to a lower-body injury. He picked up wins in each of his first two starts upon his return, allowing five goals on 60 shots in those games. However, he struggled in relief against the Maple Leafs on Saturday, allowing three goals on 13 shots (.769 save percentage) in a 7-2 defeat. The Flyers are scoring 2.83 goals per game this season, which is the ninth-worst mark in the league.

Penguins' Bokondji Imama: Summoned from AHL
Imama was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Monday.
Pittsburgh also brought up Rutger McGroarty from the minors ahead of Monday's matchup against Philadelphia. Both forwards could be in the lineup versus the Flyers after the Penguins assigned Tristan Broz and Danton Heinen to the AHL on Sunday.

Penguins' Rutger McGroarty: Called up from minors
McGroarty was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Monday.
McGroarty has been lighting it up in the minors since returning from an upper-body injury, generating four goals and three assists in five minor-league games with the Baby Pens. While the 21-year-old winger could move into a top-six role for Pittsburgh, he likely will start his time with the Penguins on the third line with fellow youngster Ben Kindel.
