Barcelona star midfielder Javier Mascherano has escaped prison time but will have to pay a fine of $888,093 dollars for two counts of tax evasion that he was to be tried for shortly, according to Marca.
The former Liverpool man accepted to pay the fine and received a one-year prison sentence that he won't have to serve. The deal between the prosecution and defense comes after he pleaded guilty to tax evasion, per the report.
This could have been some troubling news for Barca had the Argentine not reached a deal and had to serve time. A talented, veteran defensive midfielder, Mascherano arrived in Barcelona in 2010.
