Fair play is important on the pitch, and Major League Soccer wants to see it off the pitch. According to Sports Illustrated, the league has a problem with what transpired between the Portland Timbers and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The two met on Sunday, with Portland winning 1-0. In that match, Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme was given two yellow cards for fouls that were more dives than anything.

So, the Galaxy posted this.

Pretty creative. And Portland responded with this.

Not that great. But the Galaxy’s video, which Portland called a meme, had many chuckling. Even those playing pro soccer in France, like U.S. women’s national team star and California native Alex Morgan.

Now according to Sports Illustrated, citing a league source, the league office will address the issue. We’ve seen issues like this in other leagues like the NFL -- who have been notoriously dubbed the ‘No Fun League’ by many -- and what we will see here  probably won’t be more than a “please don’t do things like that on Twitter again” than anything else.

Yes, Portland won the match 1-0. But when it comes to Twitter battles, it’s Galaxy 1, Timbers 0.

Now, MLS, don’t take fun things like this away from us. A little joking never hurt anybody.
