It looks more and more likely that the United States, Canada and Mexico will bid together to host the 2026 World Cup, and CONCACAF's president Victor Montagliani thinks the United States' president-elect could play a key role.

The CONCACAF top man said Donald Trump, who will be sworn in as the president of the United States on Jan. 20, loves sports and could be vital as the trio aims to present a bid, per ESPNFC.

"It is pretty obvious the president-elect [Donald Trump] is a supporter of sport, a supporter of the Olympic movement and builds golf courses," he said.

He went on to say that the World Cup would 'trump' any political issues between the nations as they look to secure the first cup for the region since 1994, when the United States hosted. Mexico hosted the World Cup last in 1986.

Of course, it would make sense to envision Trump being a big part in the bidding process and the potential hosting of a tournament. The billionaire businessman would have a platform to push economic development and create plenty of jobs, albeit mostly temporary, during the cup.

The World Cup may also be expanding, but there is no word as to what Trump's thoughts are on that. Hopefully he agrees with me.
