Let's set the scene. It's the year 2001, and England is in a bit of trouble. The always-pressured national team is on the verge of missing out on earning a direct spot to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. Entering its final qualifying match against Greece on Oct. 6, England needed just a draw but somehow found itself down 2-1 at Old Trafford.

That's when David Beckham, the Manchester United legend in his own home, scored this free kick in the 93rd minute to send England through.

Gives me chills. What a curling kick into the far side of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper frozen. Beckham never scored a bigger goal in his life. It was the ultimate difference in providing his nation a chance of supporting the team in the World Cup or having to deal with a brutal playoff to qualify.

One of the goals of the century.
