After three games on the road, the Austin Peay Governors are heading back home. They and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will compete for holiday cheer at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Winfield Dunn Center. The Hilltoppers will be strutting in after a win while Austin Peay will be stumbling in from a loss.

A victory for Austin Peay just wasn't in the stars this past Saturday as the team never even grasped a temporary lead. Things couldn't have gone much worse for them as they lost 77-51 to the Vanderbilt Commodores. Austin Peay was surely aware of their 15.5-point disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result. A silver lining for them was the play of guard Caleb Stone-Carrawell, who had 16 points. Stone-Carrawell hadn't helped his team much against the South Florida Bulls last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Meanwhile, WKU beat the Louisville Cardinals 82-72 this past Saturday. WKU got double-digit scores from five players: guard Camron Justice (25), center Jamarion Sharp (14), guard Josh Anderson (13), guard Dayvion McKnight (13), and forward Jairus Hamilton (13). Jamarion Sharp has also now had at least four blocks in his past three games.

The Governors are now 4-6 while the Hilltoppers sit at 8-4. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Austin Peay has allowed their opponents to shoot 47% from the floor on average, which is the ninth highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. WKU's defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 38.20%, which places them 27th in college basketball.
