David Robinson's basketball-playing son to attend Duke next season
He'll be a preferred walk-on for Coach K next season.
Duke's military connection strikes again.
David Robinson, the best basketball player in the history of the Naval Academy, will watch his son attend Duke , coached by a man who molded himself at West Point. The news first came via a report Tuesday night from 247Sports' Blue Devil Lair.
Justin Robinson, a combo small forward, will be a preferred walk-on for Mike Krzyzewski's team starting in 2015-16.
"I'm happy to get early decision from Duke since it is so amazing academically," Justin Robinson told Blue Devil Lair in a text message. "It's been a long time dream for me. The opportunity to be a preferred walk-on is exciting and I'm looking forward to being a part of the Duke Basketball tradition."
Robinson, standing 6-foot-7, isn't nearly as talls as pops, and his game is a bit different as well. He's not considered an elite talent, so chances are we won't see much of him for a bit. But maybe, come 2017 or so, he develops into a nice role player? It'll be interesting to see what becomes of his playing career at a competitive place like Duke.
His father and Coach K have known each other for well over 20 years, dating back to the big man's time on the 1992 Dream Team. Krzyzewski was an assistant on that staff.
