What to Know

The Portland Pilots will square off against the San Jose State Spartans at 9 p.m. ET on Friday at Earle A. Chiles Center. SJSU will be strutting in after a win while the Pilots will be stumbling in from a loss.

A victory for Portland just wasn't in the stars on Wednesday as the squad never even grasped a temporary lead. They ended up on the wrong side of a painful 96-71 walloping at the Oregon Ducks' hands. Portland was surely aware of their 17-point disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result. The losing side was boosted by guard Chris Austin, who had 19 points along with seven boards.

Meanwhile, while not quite a landslide, the contest between SJSU and the Pacific Tigers on Saturday was still a pretty decisive one as SJSU wrapped it up with a 78-66 victory at home. The Spartans got double-digit scores from four players: forward Trey Anderson (23), guard Omari Moore (18), forward Tibet Gorener (13), and guard Trey Smith (11).

Barring any buzzer beaters, the Pilots are expected to win a tight contest. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the team has let down bettors in their past three games.

Portland's defeat took them down to 8-4 while San Jose State's victory pulled them up to 5-4. Omari Moore will be someone to keep an eye on after he had 18 points and six assists in addition to five rebounds on Saturday. Let's see if he can build on that strong performance or if Portland's defense can bottle him up.
