Virginia junior Justin Anderson, a possible First Team All-American, suffered a serious hand injury in Saturday night's win over Louisville and could miss around four weeks of games, a source told CBSSports.com late Saturday.
UVA subsequently confirmed the news by announcing Anderson will have surgery Sunday on a fractured finger. The official timetable for a return is 4-to-6 weeks.
Four weeks from Sunday is March 8, which is one day after Virginia closes the regular season at Louisville. In other words, the best-case scnenario has Anderson returning for the ACC Tournament. But he might not play again until the NCAA Tournament, if at all.
Anderson is averaging a team-best 13.9 points per game.
Virginia is 21-1 and ranked third in the Associated Press poll.
The Cavaliers have a two-game lead in the loss column of the ACC standings.
