Who's Playing

Lehigh @ Maryland

Current Records: Lehigh 1-9; Maryland 6-4

What to Know

The Maryland Terrapins will finish 2021 at home by hosting the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Xfinity Center. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, Maryland has to be feeling especially confident now that the spread is in their favor.

Two weeks ago, the Terrapins narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Florida Gators 70-68. Maryland relied on the efforts of guard Eric Ayala, who had 19 points along with five boards, and guard Hakim Hart, who had 11 points. Ayala had some trouble finding his footing against the Northwestern Wildcats three weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, it looks like Lehigh must have gotten on Santa's naughty list since the squad didn't end up with the victory they were expected to receive last Tuesday. The contest between Lehigh and the Albany Great Danes was not particularly close, with Lehigh falling 68-52.

This next game looks promising for the Terrapins, who are favored by a full 23 points. Those who got lucky with them against the spread two weeks ago might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.

Maryland's win brought them up to 6-4 while the Mountain Hawks' loss pulled them down to 1-9. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Maryland is stumbling into the matchup with the 51st fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 11.6 on average. Lehighs have had an even harder time: they are 16th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 10.7 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
