Who's Playing

Virginia Tech @ North Carolina

Current Records: Virginia Tech 8-5; North Carolina 9-3

What to Know

The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Virginia Tech Hokies are set to square off in an ACC matchup at 7 p.m. ET Dec. 29 at Dean E. Smith Center. UNC is out to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.

The App. State Mountaineers typically have all the answers at home, but last Tuesday the Tar Heels proved too difficult a challenge. UNC put the hurt on the Mountaineers with a sharp 70-50 victory. It should come as no surprise that the experts had more or less unanimously put their money on UNC. They got double-digit scores from four players: forward Armando Bacot (16), guard RJ Davis (15), guard Caleb Love (11), and forward Brady Manek (11). That makes it three consecutive games in which Armando Bacot has had at least ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech ended up a good deal behind the Duke Blue Devils when they played last week, losing 76-65. Guard Hunter Cattoor had a pretty forgettable game, finishing with ten points on 4-for-10 shooting in his 35 minutes on the court.

UNC beat the Hokies 81-73 when the two teams previously met in March. The Tar Heels' win shoved Virginia Tech out of the playoffs, so they have a target on their back.
