What to Know

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the Wichita State Shockers are set to clash at 3 p.m. ET March 10 at Dickies Arena in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Golden Hurricane have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with Wichita State and are hoping to record their first victory since Feb. 1 of 2020.

The UCF Knights typically have all the answers at home, but on Sunday Tulsa proved too difficult a challenge. Tulsa skirted by UCF 73-72 thanks to a clutch half-court bomb from forward Jeriah Horne as the clock expired. Horne and guard Darien Jackson were among the main playmakers for Tulsa as the former shot 5-for-11 from downtown and finished with 21 points and nine rebounds and the latter had 22 points.

Meanwhile, the East Carolina Pirates typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday the Shockers proved too difficult a challenge. Wichita State walked away with a 70-62 win. They got double-digit scores from four players: guard Ricky Council IV (20), guard Craig Porter Jr. (15), forward Morris Udeze (12), and guard Tyson Etienne (12). Porter Jr. hadn't helped his team much against the Golden Hurricane when the two teams last met earlier in the regular season, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Tulsa is expected to win this handily, but they should have beaten the Air Force Falcons Nov. 13 easily too and instead slipped up with a 59-58. In other words, don't count Wichita State out just yet.
