Auburn will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Auburn put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past Arkansas, posting a 48-10 victory on the road.
Payton Thorne looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Rivaldo Fairweather also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Auburn's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Jalen McLeod was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself. Another big playmaker for Auburn was Keionte Scott, who managed to return a punt 74-yards to the end zone in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, New Mexico State had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They walked away with a 38-29 victory over Western Kentucky. The victory came about thanks to a strong surge starting at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter, when they were facing a 14-0 deficit.
New Mexico State got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Diego Pavia out in front who threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Auburn now has a winning record of 5-4. As for New Mexico State, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Not only did both teams in this Saturday's game win their last matches, they also took care of their bettors and covered the spread. As mentioned, Auburn is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 24 points. New Mexico State might be worth a quick bet since they've covered the spread the last eight times they've played.
Saturday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. The Tigers have been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 207.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like the Aggies struggle in that department as they've been averaging 204.6 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
