Game Recap
When you finish with 274 more yards than your opponent like the Liberty Flames did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 48-7 win over the Campbell Fighting Camels. The margin was wide but not a surprise since the spread was 34 points in the Flames' favor.
Liberty's offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 20 first-half points. Campbell wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 20-7 heading into the break. Liberty put the matchup away in the third quarter with 14 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
Liberty QB Johnathan Bennett was slinging it as he passed for one TD and 102 yards on six attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown.
Campbell's only offensive touchdown came on a rush from QB Hajj-Malik Williams. The game brought Liberty to 1-0 and dropped the Fighting Camels to a mirror-image 0-1.
The Flames will square off against the Troy Trojans at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Larry Blakeney Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Troy is coming in off of a big 47-3 win over the Southern University Jaguars. Campbell will be playing at home against the Elon Phoenix at 6 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like Campbell, Elon is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 24-22 to the Wofford Terriers.
