The best player on the turf between the FIU Panthers and the Liberty Flames on Saturday ended up on the losing team. Although he couldn't prevent a 36-34 defeat to Liberty, RB D'Vonte Price rushed for two TDs and 148 yards on 13 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD. One of the most memorable plays of the contest was Price's 65-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter.
Liberty QB Malik Willis was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 285 yards on 30 attempts in addition to picking up 85 yards on the ground. Willis' longest run was for 67 yards in the fourth quarter. The Liberty defense stepped up as well to lay out the QB five times.
The loss dropped FIU record to 0-1. The win makes it two in a row for the Flames and bumps their record up to 2-0.
The Panthers can take some time to mend their wounds since their next matchup isn't for a while. They will face the Middle Tenn. Blue Raiders at Riccardo Silva Stadium at 7 p.m. ET in two weeks. Liberty will be hunkering down at home again for their game against the North Alabama Lions at 1 p.m. ET Oct. 3 at Williams Stadium.
