Live scores, highlights and updates from the Memphis vs. Mississippi State football game
Game Recap
The Mississippi State Bulldogs were close but no cigar on Saturday as they fell 31-29 to the Memphis Tigers. Despite 222 more yards than Memphis, the Bulldogs could not convert that extra yardage to scores.
WR Calvin Austin III was the offensive standout of the game for Memphis, catching nine passes for two TDs and 105 yards. Memphis also relied on P Joe Doyle, whose 51-yard field goal boot in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference in the matchup.
Despite the loss, MSU got a solid performance out of QB Will Rogers, who passed for three TDs and 419 yards on 67 attempts.
MSU's defeat pushed them down to 2-1. The win bumped Memphis' record up to 3-0.
The Bulldogs will take on the LSU Tigers at noon ET next Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field. Memphis will play host again and welcome the UTSA Roadrunners to Liberty Bowl Memorial, where kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like Memphis, UTSA is also coming into the contest bolstered by a recent victory.
