Northern Illinois vs. Miami (OH) updates: Live NCAA Football game scores, results for Wednesday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Northern Illinois vs. Miami (OH) football game
A Mid-American battle is on tap between the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Miami (OH) RedHawks at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium. NIU will be strutting in after a victory while Miami (OH) will be stumbling in from a defeat.
The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday. Kudos to the oddsmakers for accurately forecasting both the winner and the close margin. NIU relied on the efforts of QB Justin Lynch, who rushed for one TD and 83 yards, and RB Jaiden Credle, who rushed for one TD and 136 yards on 36 carries. NIU's win came on a nine-yard rush from Lynch with only 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.
NIU's defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed WMU's offensive line to sack QB Treyson Bourguet seven times for a total loss of 38 yards. Leading the way was DE Izayah Green-May and his two sacks. Green-May now has three sacks through ten games.
Meanwhile, the RedHawks lost to the Ohio Bobcats at home by a decisive 37-21 margin. Miami (OH)'s loss came about despite a quality game from WR Mac Hippenhammer, who caught eight passes for three TDs and 107 yards.
The Huskies' victory brought them up to 3-7 while Miami (OH)'s loss pulled them down to 4-6. A couple stats to keep an eye on: NIU comes into the contest boasting the 25th most rushing yards per game in the nation at 199.6. But Miami (OH) ranks 22nd in the nation when it comes to rushing yards allowed per game, with only 116.4 on average. We'll see which of these strengths -- offense or defense -- will win out.
