Northwestern vs. Penn State: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAA Football game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Northwestern vs. Penn State football game
Penn State will be playing the full four quarters on Saturday, but they're expected to have things wrapped up well before that. The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Northwestern Wildcats will face off in a Big Ten battle at 12:00 p.m. ET at Ryan Field. Penn State will be coming into the match with an undefeated 4-0 record.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Penn State on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Iowa out of the water with a 31-0 final score.
Drew Allar did his thing and threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Warren was in the mix as well, providing Penn State with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it may have taken the full four quarters to finish the job, but Northwestern ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 victory over Minnesota. Northwestern pushed the score to 31-10 by the end of the third, a deficit Minnesota cut but never quite recovered from.
Bryce Kirtz and Ben Bryant were among the main playmakers for Northwestern as the former picked up 215 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 396 yards and four touchdowns. Kirtz's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
Their wins bumped Penn State to 4-0 and Northwestern to 2-2.
Not only did both teams in this Saturday's matchup win their last matches, they also took care of their bettors and covered the spread. Looking ahead, Penn State shouldn't be too worried about this matchup, as the experts have them favored by 27 points. This contest will be their fourth straight as the favorites (a stretch that saw them go 4-0 against the spread).
Penn State beat Northwestern 17-7 in their previous matchup last October. The rematch might be a little tougher for Penn State since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
