Live scores, highlights and updates from the San Jose State vs. New Mexico football game
Game Recap
WR Tre Walker had a quiet outing against the Air Force Falcons last week, but he sure didn't disappoint on Saturday. QB Nick Starkel passed for five TDs and 467 yards on 47 attempts as the San Jose State Spartans beat the New Mexico Lobos 38-21.
In addition to Starkel, SJSU got help from WR Bailey Gaither, who caught ten passes for one TD and 208 yards. Starkel's 69-yard touchdown toss to Gaither in the third quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.
New Mexico's defeat came about despite a quality game from QB Tevaka Tuioti, who passed for two TDs and 294 yards on 35 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 66 yards. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse LB Brandon Shook, who racked up ten tackles.
The victory makes it two in a row for the Spartans and bumps their record up to 2-0. The loss dropped New Mexico's record to 0-1.
SJSU is packing up and heading on the road for their first away game this season. They face off against the San Diego State Aztecs next Friday at SDCCU Stadium at 9 p.m. ET. San Diego State is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 10-6 win over the Utah State Aggies on Saturday. New Mexico will hit the road for the second straight week as they head to Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium at 11 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like them, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 31-7 to the Wyoming Cowboys.
