Preview
South Alabama has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Texas State Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium. South Alabama will be strutting in after a win while Texas State will be stumbling in from a defeat.
Last Saturday, South Alabama got themselves on the board against Marshall, but Marshall never followed suit. They put a hurting on the Thundering Herd at home to the tune of 28-0. South Alabama might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matchups by 26 points or more this season.
La'Damian Webb continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 117 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a touchdown. Caullin Lacy also helped out with an impressive 126 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, the point spread may have favored Texas State last Saturday, but the final result did not. They were completely outmatched by Arkansas State on the road and fell 77-31. Texas State has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from TJ Finley, who threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns. Kole Wilson was another key contributor, picking up 68 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
South Alabama now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Texas State, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Going forward, South Alabama is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by six points. For those looking to play the spread, careful betting on South Alabama: they have a less-than-stellar 4-7 record against the spread this season.
South Alabama strolled past Texas State in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 by a score of 38-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Alabama since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
