Live scores, highlights and updates from the Texas Tech vs. Texas football game
Game Recap
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Texas Longhorns ultimately got the result they were hoping for on Saturday with a 63-56 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. That's another feather in the cap for Texas, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
The game started off well for the Longhorns, whose offense put up 31 first-half points. Texas Tech wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 31-21 heading into the break. Texas let their lead slip in the second half to bring about an overtime, but they still came out alive.
Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was on fire, passing for five TDs and 262 yards on 40 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 69 yards. Brenden Schooler's longest reception was for 27 yards in the fourth quarter. Another playmaker for Texas was DB D'Shawn Jamison, who returned a punt -17 yards to the end zone in the third quarter.
The Longhorns defense was a presence as well, as it collected three interceptions and one fumble. Those interceptions were spread across their defensive unit.
Despite the loss, the Red Raiders had strong showings from RB SaRodorick Thompson, who rushed for two TDs and 104 yards on 16 carries, and QB Alan Bowman, who passed for five TDs and 325 yards on 52 attempts. One of the most memorable plays of the matchup was Thompson's 75-yard touchdown rush in the fourth quarter.
The win makes it two in a row for Texas and bumps their record up to 2-0. The loss dropped Texas Tech back to even at 1-1.
Texas will square off against the TCU Horned Frogs at 1 p.m. ET next Saturday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium/Jamail Field. The defensive coordinators will surely put in extra hours ahead of this contest since these teams' offenses combined for 911 yards this week. Texas Tech is packing up and heading on the road for their first away contest this season. They face off against the Kansas State Wildcats next Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET.
