The Charlotte 49ers will head out on the road to face off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Charlotte might have drawn first blood against FAU on Friday, but it was FAU who got the last laugh. Charlotte ended up on the wrong side of a bruising 38-16 walloping at the hands of FAU.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed ten in total. All those points came courtesy of Kyle Cunanan: he added nine points with three field goals, and another on an extra-point kick.
Meanwhile, Tulsa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a punishing 69-10 defeat at the hands of SMU. Tulsa was surely aware of their disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Golden Hurricane had trouble moving the ball and finished the game with only 247 total yards. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as SMU gained 638.
Charlotte's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.7 points per game. As for Tulsa, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
In addition to losing their last games, Tulsa and Charlotte failed to cover the spread. Looking ahead, Tulsa is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by four points. Charlotte might be worth a quick bet since they're sitting on a four game streak of covering the spread when playing as the underdogs on the road.
