Kentucky have so far played every game this season on their home-field, but they'll have to hit the road on Saturday. They will square off against the Vanderbilt Commodores at 12:00 p.m. ET at FirstBank Stadium. Kentucky should still be feeling good after a big victory, while Vanderbilt will be looking to get back into the win column.
You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Kentucky's strategy against Akron on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Kentucky blew Akron out of the water with a 35-3 final score.
Kentucky relied on the efforts of QB Devin Leary, who threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns, and RB Ray Davis, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. Davis also made the highlight reel thanks to a 58-yard receiving touchdown in the third quarter. The team also got some help courtesy of RB Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown.
The team won by holding Akron to a paltry 239 yards. Kentucky's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was LB Trevin Wallace and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, the point spread favored Vanderbilt on Saturday, but luck did not. They fell just short of UNLV by a score of 40-37.
Nobody from Vanderbilt had a standout game, but they still got scores from QB AJ Swann, TE Justin Ball, and WR Quincy Skinner Jr. The team also got some help courtesy of WR London Humphreys, who picked up 102 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Vanderbilt, adding 13 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of K Jacob Borcila: he added nine points with three field goals, and another four kicking extra points.
Looking ahead, Kentucky are the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 14 points. Be careful betting them against the spread as while they're 2-1 ATS overall, they're only 1-4 against Vanderbilt in their most recent matchups.
Kentucky couldn't quite finish off Vanderbilt in their previous matchup last November and fell 24-21. Can Kentucky avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
