The start of the season may be delayed, but the mock drafting continues, this time for a standard 12-team Rotisserie league.

What differed in our latest look at the format was how starting pitcher played out. This particular group of drafters wasn't as interested in them. Walker Buehler, normally an early second-rounder, slipped to Pick 27. Shane Bieber, normally a late second-rounder, slipped to Pick 32.

And the devaluation trickled down from there. Sandy Alcantara went in Round 4, Kevin Gausman in Round 6, Frankie Montas in Round 8. There were others, of course, but those were the three I capitalized on, in addition to Bieber. It was to this point my most pitcher-heavy build in a Rotisserie league -- four of my first eight picks -- and while I wouldn't say it's optimal given how the middle class at the position has improved from a year ago, you can't help what the rest of your league does. You take the value where it presents itself.

Some other observations:

  • Ronald Acuna looks like he's becoming a routine first-rounder again even as he rehabilitates a torn ACL. His upside is second only to Fernando Tatis in this format, but even by his own estimate, he's not expected back until May. He figures to move up a spot for every week of the season that's canceled.
  • It's getting rarer to see Rafael Devers last beyond the Round 1-2 turn as the scarcities at third base become better known. I've been adamant about taking Freddie Freeman ahead of him up until now, but I'm beginning to wonder how long it will take Freeman to sign with a team after the lockout is lifted. Is it possible he's not ready for the start of the season?
  • I never had a chance at Salvador Perez in this one. At 29 overall, it's the earliest I've seen him go. I'm not letting him past me in Round 4, but early Round 3 is passing up on top-tier talent elsewhere.
  • Even in a 12-team league, the closer markup persists. with Josh Hader going 34th overall and Liam Hendriks going 37th. Folks, just because we can't identify all the saves sources right now doesn't mean they won't exist. Someone in your league is getting those saves, so in the end, the advantage Hader, Hendriks or any other early-round closer gives you won't justify the cost.
  • Jonathan India and Kyle Schwarber in Round 7 were both on the early side. I think Schwarber has the upside to justify it, but he's someone I'm normally looking to target in Round 9 or 10.
  • Even after investing early in Devers, I still managed to take two more of my top 12 at third base, nabbing Kris Bryant to be my top outfielder and Matt Chapman to be my corner infielder. The ripple effect saw Eduardo Escobar and Ryan McMahon drafted as starters for other teams, which isn't optimal in a 12-team league.
  • Everybody's favorite stolen base specialist, Myles Straw, lasted until Pick 208 in this one, about 50 spots later than usual. I took Nicky Lopez, my own favorite stolen base specialist, a pick alter.
