Fantasy Baseball: Two-start pitcher rankings for Week 23
Probable pitchers can change from one day to the next this time of year, which makes ranking two-start pitchers for the week ahead more art than science. But Scott White is up for the challenge.
This is when things start to get a little crazy.
September has arrived. Rosters have expanded. Managers have excess pitchers to choose from and will sometimes go with a spot starter on a whim.
So more than ever, this list of two-start pitchers is only hypothetical -- a best guess based on what little we're privy to -- which is annoying since now is when a lineup decision can make or break your season. It's all the more reason to go with your studs when in doubt, which is usually the advisable approach in Fantasy Baseball anyway.
Of course, that's not an issue for Nos. 1-7 on this list. One start or two, you want them in your lineup, and the same is probably true for Nos. 8-11 in leagues of any size at all.
But you'll find several pitchers here who could be limited to one start for reasons other than September weirdness. Brandon Finnegan (innings), Kenta Maeda (crowded rotation), and James Paxton (fingernail) require an abundance of caution, though each pitcher's ranking already takes it into account.
The sleepers here are Luke Weaver and Chad Kuhl, who are both less than 50 percent owned, have stepped up their production recently and have reasonably good matchups. The pitcher whose matchups really set him apart, though, is Bartolo Colon, who's 79 percent owned in CBSSports.com leagues.
