Team India cricket coach Anil Kumble resigned Tuesday, doing so amid swirling rumors of a beef with Indian captian Virat Kohli. Kumble's resignation came two days after a loss to Pakistan, and his one-year contract expired this year. He had the opportunity to travel with the team to the West Indies, and when he declined (electing to stay in London), the writing appeared to be on the wall for the wildly popular coach.

Speculation has abounded that Kumble's resignation is caused largely by his issues with Kohli. Reports said that Kohli viewed Kumble as intimidating, and he felt that Kumble had an overbearing coaching method. Kohli denied these reports, although speculation ran further rampant when India advertised for a new coach. India claimed that this was just a formality, and they had every intention of bringing Kumble back. Now that he has stepped down, whether or not the reports of issues were true, it paints Kohli in a bad light.

Another thing working against Kohli is Kumble's deep roots to Indian cricket. A legendary player himself, Kumble is beloved among the Indian fanbase.

The consensus appears to be against Kohli, but whether or not this will have any repercussions on his status with the team will largely depend on the next coach India decides to bring in.
