  • White Sox's Tyler Johnson: Rejoins White Sox organization

Johnson signed a 2022 minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The righty pitcher will remain in the White Sox's minor-league system after he was released Thursday. Despite Johnson's 12.41 ERA and 3.06 WHIP with Triple-A Charlotte this year, the team must see enough potential to keep him around another year.

  • Tyler Johnson: Released by ChiSox

Johnson was released by the White Sox on Thursday. Johnson was added to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but he'll now become a free agent after he posted a 12.41 ERA and 3.06 WHIP in 12.1 innings across 13 relief appearances at Triple-A Charlotte this year. The White Sox could attempt to re-sign him to a minor-league deal soon to keep him in the organization.

  • White Sox's Tyler Johnson: Contract selected

Johnson's contract was purchased by the White Sox on Friday. The move protects the 25-year-old righty from the Rule 5 draft. He's yet to pitch above the Double-A level and has only thrown 18.1 innings there, but he did spend all of the 2020 season as part of the White Sox's 60-man player pool.

  • White Sox's Tyler Johnson: Receives spot in 60-man pool

The White Sox announced Monday that Johnson will be included as part of the team's 60-man roster pool. Considering the 2017 fifth-round pick has logged fewer than 20 innings above the Double-A level, the White Sox are likely viewing Johnson as luxury depth out of the bullpen due to the expanded roster. His initial opportunities will presumably come in lower-leverage spots, though he could see his role grow if he makes a strong early impression out of the big-league bullpen.

  • White Sox's Tyler Johnson: Rehab moves to High-A

Johnson's (lat) rehab assignment has been transferred to High-A Winston-Salem, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. A talented young reliever, Johnson has been sidelined all year with a lat strain, but began a rehab assignment in the AZL last week. He will likely get bumped up to Double-A in the coming weeks.

  • White Sox's Tyler Johnson: Sidelined with lat strain

Johnson (lat strain) is on the 7-day IL at Double-A Birmingham, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. A fifth-round pick in 2017, Johnson has some long-term upside as a potential late-inning arm, but the White Sox have a handful of electric relievers ahead of him on the organizational depth chart.
