Flyers vs. Islanders Game 7 score: Isles win in dominant shutout, advance to Eastern Conference Final

The Islanders are in the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 1993

The New York Islanders have officially booked their ticket to Edmonton with a decisive 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Barry Trotz's squad will face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday to start the Eastern Conference Final, with just four wins separating them from the Stanley Cup final. 

While Philly fought valiantly to try and crawl out of the 3-1 series hole that New York had put them in, the efforts that got them to this point of the postseason seemed to finally catch up. Allowing the hot start for the Islanders in the first period was characteristic of a Flyers team that was rather gassed. Things naturally didn't get better as the game progressed, and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the Flyers looked like they were running on empty.

The Islanders, meanwhile, were maintaining the energy levels that not only gave them that series lead, but also kept the last two Flyers wins -- which, it's worth noting, both went to overtime -- rather close. It's what led to Mathew Barzal being able to seemingly do whatever he wanted whenever he had possession of the puck, and that's just one example of that very dominance this game.

For the Flyers, it's an upset heartbreak as the top seed of the conference goes down to a sixth seed. For the Islanders, it's history in the making as they return to the conference final for the first time in 27 years.
