Alex Ovechkin is the kind of celebrity in Russia that LeBron James is in the United States. Everyone wants a piece of him, including Russian pop star Katyla Lel, who had Ovechkin star in her latest music video. Ovi gets himself a ton of screen time, but I couldn’t help think that the Washington Capitals captain was merely set dressing or a prop.

It appears that Ovechkin’s direction in this video was: “Hey, Ovi, stand here, look kind of tough and just don’t move… for like a half hour. You look great. Perfect. Just like that. Now don’t move. I mean it. Just stand there.”

Ovechkin is basically a statue while the nice lady climbs all over him. That kind of focus from the Capitals star just can’t be taught.

They eventually let Ovechkin do what he does best by giving him a helmet, some gloves and a stick. They did not give him pucks though. They used CGI for the flying discs that were meant to just narrowly miss the pop star. Safety first.

I have so many questions, but I don’t think I’m prepared for the answers to any of them.
