Lightning's Otto Somppi: Waived for AHL assignment
Rotowire
Somppi was put on waivers Saturday, reports Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Somppi is expected to be a key member of the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) forward corps this season. Last year, he had 12 goals and 26 points in 32 games with the Crunch. Somppi was drafted six spots from the end of the 2016 draft (seventh round) and has impressed enough to earn a qualifying offer and one-year deal. His upside is limited in the NHL, but should he make it, Somppi will stand as the poster child for the strength of the Bolts' scouting system. It's rare for a guy picked that late to contribute at the highest level of the game.

Lightning's Otto Somppi: Pens one-year deal
Rotowire
Somppi inked a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
Somppi racked up 26 points in 32 games with AHL Syracuse last season and will no doubt be hoping he's done enough to warrant a call-up this year to make his NHL debut. The 2016 seventh-round selection shouldn't be expected to make a significant impact in 2021-22 and won't offer much in the way of fantasy value.

Lightning's Otto Somppi: Joins Finnish club
Rotowire
Somppi will start the 2020-21 campaign on loan with the Lahden Pelicans (Finland).
Somppi saw action in 45 games with AHL Syracuse last year, garnering five goals and 13 helpers, but he wasn't able to earn a call up to the NHL. The 22-year-old center will likely join the Lightning for training camp ahead of next season but will be hard-pressed to secure a spot on the 23-man roster.
