Lionel Messi and Barcelona looked sharp in their La Liga return on Saturday with a convincing 4-0 win at Mallorca to move five points clear atop the table. Messi had been dealing with a thigh injury in recent weeks but had trained with the first team since Monday and didn't look a step slow in his first 90 minutes back. Barca got off to a fast start and actually grabbed the winning goal just two minutes in when Jordi Alba found the head of Arturo Vidal in the box.

Barca led 2-0 at the break after Messi set up Martin Braithwaite for his first goal for the club, and Messi set up Alba for his goal in the 79th minute. With Barca headed towards the three-goal win, Messi got this goal in the 93rd minute to complete the crushing scoreline, and it came off his right foot:

Barca had 65 percent of the possession and score four of the six shots it put on frame to put a little pressure on Real Madrid ahead of their match on Sunday with Eibar.

Messi's goal sees him become the first player to score 20 goals in 12 straight La Liga seasons. Striker Luis Suarez, who was set to miss most of the season with a knee injury, recovered during the stop due to the coronavirus pandemic and entered as a second-half substitute. He ended up playing 33 minutes and assisted Messi's goal.

Mallorca remains in the relegation zone and needs points from here on out to secure survival.

The club returns to action on Tuesday against Leganes at 4 p.m. ET on a game you can see on fuboTV (Try for free).
