Champions League scores
- Bayern Munich 3, Chelsea 1
- Paris Saint-Germain 4, Atalanta 0
- Ajax 0, Inter 2
- Liverpool 3, Atletico Madrid 2

Liverpool left it late again with their third game-winning goal in stoppage time this season, this time saving it for a dramatic 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The Reds took the lead in the fourth minute when Mohamed Salah took a freekick and kept the ball low to the ground, hitting Andy Robertson before making its way into the back of the net in a moment of clumsy defending from the visitors. Liverpool doubled their lead just two minutes later as Salah outmuscled a handful of Atletico defenders before scoring from close range. Atletico did pull one back shortly before halftime with a goal from Marcos Llorente, though it did not stop the Reds from generating plenty of goalscoring opportunities to bolster their lead in the second half.
Their wastefulness, however, opened the door to Atletico's 81st minute equalizer, scored again by Llorente with the help of a major deflection. It was Llorente's second brace at Anfield, scoring twice in a March 2020 match at the Reds' home, with four of his seven career Champions League goals coming in that stadium. The Reds, though, restored their lead in stoppage time thanks to a goal from Virgil van Dijk on a corner.
Elsewhere in Europe, Bayern Munich notched a 3-1 win at home against Chelsea in the Blues' return to the Champions League after two seasons away, while reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain registered a dominant 4-0 win over Atalanta. Last season's finalists Inter collected a 2-0 at Ajax to open their campaign, with Marcus Thuram scoring twice from headers off corners.
Here's a glance at Wednesday's Champions League scores.

90'+3 Liverpool, noted lovers of late goals, do it again! Virgil van Dijk joins his teammates for a corner and the center back, in trademark fashion, scores from the set piece opportunity. It's their fourth extra time goal of the season, and could be their third game-winner in that category.
90'+1 Goncalo Ramos joins the party in Paris with a goal in stoppage time, giving PSG a 4-0 lead that nearly resembles the 5-0 win they notched over Inter to collect their first Champions League title. Not a bad way to mark your first game as the reigning champions.
81' Liverpool get punished for not putting their chances away, allowing the perfect opening for Marcos Llorente to bag the equalizer with the help of a major deflection. It isn't his first brace at Anfield, either -- he scored twice at the ground in March 2020 to knock the Reds out of the competition, with four of his seven career Champions League goals coming at Liverpool. Who could've foreseen this after the hosts' quick start?
63' Chelsea are in possession near their box but a lackadaisical approach from the Blues means Harry Kane's able to get ahold of a loose touch from Malo Gusto and pop the goal into the back of the net with no time at all. It's his 10th goal all-time against Chelsea, allowing the talisman to climb up the Champions League's goalscoring charts and give Bayern a 3-1 lead with about a half hour on the clock.
58' Arne Slot goes to the bench to make three changes -- off come Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo and on come Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Alexis Mac Allister. Isak comes off with two shots in his first Liverpool game, clearly still building up match fitness but offering another flickers of hope to keep Reds fans excited for what's next.
51' It may have taken a few minutes for PSG to put the game to bed but it felt like a matter of time before they did, with Nuno Mendes bagging his side's third goal against Atalanta. Mendes is on the left wing and outmaneuvers a handful of Atalanta defenders before scoring from a tight angle in perhaps one of the most stunning goals of the day.
47' Marcus Thuram completes a brace in the opening minutes of the second half, once again rising up on a corner and scoring his second header of the day. Hakan Calhanoğgu bags the assist on this one, too, and Inter are up 2-0 at Ajax with plenty of time still on the clock.
46' Bayern manager Vincent Kompany has opted to make a halftime change, bringing on Kim Min-jae for Jonathan Tah. Tah picked up a yellow card midway through the first half so Kim offers a fresh start of sorts but time will tell if he's up for the challenge of defending a Chelsea offense led by Cole Palmer.
45'+3 Giacomo Raspadori connects with Marcos Llorente, who makes the drive down the right flank and cuts into a more central position to score from close range. There's a possibility of an offside call on Antoine Griezmann, who may have been interfering on the play, but the referee deems otherwise and Atletico Madrid have cut the deficit in half just before the break.
42' Yunus Musah concedes a penalty and Bradley Barcola steps up to score his first-ever penalty in his professional career and he's just far too casual with the attempt, offering Marco Carnesecchi the chance to make the most routine of saves. Musah will be relieved but it's a missed opportunity for PSG to put the game to bed, though they still boast a 2-0 lead.
42' The last goalless game of the late Champions League window is goalless no more. Hakan Calhanoglu sends the ball Marcus Thuram's way and he makes no mistake with his header after a corner, giving Inter a 1-0 lead at Ajax just before the break.
39' Achraf Hakimi connects with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the Georgia international dribbles down the wing, gets himself into a more central position and then hits the ball from distance. It's a powerful strike that can't be beat, ensuring PSG take a 2-0 lead over Atalanta.
34' Youri Baas tugs on Marcus Thuram's shirt and the referee does not hesitate to point at the spot, but first -- a penalty check. Referee Michael Oliver is goes to the screen to give things a check himself to review footage that Thuram tugged on Bass' shirt first to gain an advantage and upon review, the penalty is canceled. It's still scoreless between Ajax and Inter.
29' Jonathan Tah is booked for a foul on Joao Pedro but Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca begins shouting at the referee in Spanish, asking why the card isn't a red instead. Maresca then gets an accompanying yellow card of his own, the referee telling the Blues manager not to threaten him.
29' Chelsea string together a nice counterattack after winning the ball back near their penalty area and it ends with Cole Palmer making a run towards the opposite end, playing a quick pass to Malo Gusto to make himself available to perfectly receive the ball when Gusto sends it back his way. Palmer then takes a shot from the edge of the penalty area and it's 2-1 in Munich.
26' The referee calls a penalty for Bayern after Moises Caicedo holds Harry Kane and commits the foul, Kane the natural candidate to step up to take the spotkick. The expert talisman doesn't miss from there and it's 2-0 to Bayern, marking a horrid return to the Champions League for Chelsea after two years away from the competition. Kane also bags his ninth goal against the Blues in his career in the process.
20' The deadlock is broken in Munich, with the hosts taking the lead. Bayern earn a freekick, which sets up Michael Olise to make an important run down the right wing, Joao Pedro doing little in terms of defensive work in that instance. Olise then whips the ball into the box and it meets Trevoh Chalobah, who sends it into the back of his own net. Second own goal of the late Champions League block and we're only 20 minutes in!
6' And just like that, Liverpool have a 2-0 lead over Atletico Madrid courtesy of Mohamed Salah, who now has his 48th Champions League goal. He outmuscles three Atleti players in the box, maintains his balance and pulls off a skillful finish from close range and the game may already be out of reach for the visitors.
4' Liverpool take an early lead against Atletico Madrid, taking advantage of a set piece opportunity. Mohamed Salah takes a freekick yeards from goal and keeps the ball low to the ground but there's a massive deflection that sends the ball past Jan Oblak and straight into the back of the net. It officially goes down as an own goal from Pablo Barrios.
3' The reigning champions are off to a flying start at home, with Marquinhos winning the ball yards away from the penalty area and continues his run towards the box after offloading the ball to a teammate. All of a sudden, the center back acts as the center forward and scores from close range, notching his first Champions League goal in five years in the process.
Champions League newcomers Pafos and Bodo/Glimt pick up a point each in the tournament debuts, both in dramatic fashion. The former survived despite playing down to 10 for 65 minutes while the latter came back from a 2-0 deficit and scored twice in the final 12 minutes to salvage a draw away from home.
Slavia Praha had a 2-0 lead in the 74th minute thanks to a brace from Youssoupha Mbodji but things have unraveled for the hosts, who are now deadlocked at 2-2 with Champions League newcomers Bodo/Glimt! Daniel Bassi scored off the bench just four minutes after Mbodji completed his brace and fellow substitute Sondre Brunstad Fet bagged one of his own in the 90th. The Europa League semifinalists are now moments away from their first-ever point in Champions League play, and what a dramatic way to earn it.
Leading the line for Inter today is 20-year-old Francesco Pio Esposito, who lines up next to Marcus Thuram in the place of Lautaro Martinez, who has a minor injury and did not train on Tuesday. The Champions League action is already underway in Greater Athens and Prague, where the first halves have been fairly eventful. Here's a quick look at the scores:
Pafos are down to 10 against Olympiacos after Bruno Felipe's 25th minute red card but are still goalless against the Greek side in their Champions League debut, while ex-Brazil international David Luiz came off with an injury. Slavia Praha, meanwhile, have a 1-0 lead over another tournament newcomer in Bodo/Glimt, with Youssoupha Mbodji scoring in the 23rd minute.
The Champions League is officially back and if Tuesday's action is a preview for what's to come, an exciting day might be ahead. Wednesday's action is headlined by meetings between some of Europe's top teams, with Bayern Munich hosting Chelsea and Liverpool welcoming Atletico Madrid in what could be stiff tests of each team's Champions League credentials. Paris Saint-Germain also kick off their title defense against Atalanta in one of the more favorable matchups for Luis Enrique's side in an otherwise tough league phase schedule, while last season's finalists Inter return with a fixture at Ajax.
The action is already underway in Piraeus, where Olympiacos host Cyprus' Pafos, and Prague, where Slavia Praha are taking on Bodo/Glimt. Both Pafos and Bodo/Glimt -- a semifinalist in the Europa League last season -- are making their Champions League debuts in the early kickoffs.
Stick around as we build up to the late slate of matches and provide all the major updates once the action begins.
