Liverpool notched a second consecutive defeat on Tuesday, this time losing 1-0 at Galatasaray in UEFA Champions League action as their luck with late goals starts to run out.

The Reds went down early as Victor Osimhen scored a penalty in the 17th minute, which ended up serving as the game's lone goal. Liverpool's 16 shots were not enough for them to find an equalizer, even as manager Arne Slot brought Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak off the bench, though the result will not be his only post-match concern. Goalkeeper Alisson came off in the second half with an injury, with Giorgi Mamardashvili filling in for the final half hour and making his Champions League debut in the process.

The day's action began in the unlikely Champions League host city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, where Real Madrid put Saturday's 5-2 loss at Atletico Madrid in the past with a 5-0 win at Kairat. Kylian Mbappe scored a hattrick to open the scoring, further establishing himself as the star of Los Blancos' attacking show with Xabi Alonso at the helm, while Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Diaz finishing things up with late goals.

Meanwhile in London, Chelsea collected their first win of the Champions League season with a 1-0 result against Jose Mourinho's Benfica, the manager making his return to the competition after a five year absence. The Blues did not come out unscathed, though, with Joao Pedro picking the team's third red card in four games when he received a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Joao Pedro sees red!

90'+6 Joao Pedro commits a foul and he receives a second yellow and is sent off, VAR unable to save him because yellow cards are not up for review. This is the third red card in four games for Chelsea, sign of a worrying habit for Enzo Maresca's side.

No penalty for Liverpool

88' Liverpool just might be bailed out by a late goal yet again as Wilfried Singo is called for a foul on Ibrahima Konate and a penalty is awarded to them, but a VAR check bails out Galatasaray, who are still clinging on to the 1-0 lead they've had for around 70 minutes.

Tottenham level!

89' Tottenham finally have their equalizer thanks to an own goal from Jostein Gundersen, but do not take away credit from Spurs and especially Archie Gray. The substitute's run is the reason it all happened and Richarlison appeared to take credit for a split second but first -- a VAR check for a potential handball or foul. Several minutes later, the goal stands and now there are seven minutes of stoppage time on the clock to see if either side can get a winner.

Penalty to Atletico Madrid!

82' To add insult to injury for Eintracht Frankfurt, they concede a penalty and Julian Alvarez bags his seventh goal of the season with a cheeky attempt from the spot. Atletico have now scored five goals in consecutive games, well and truly making the most of their attacking opportunities.

One more for Atletico!

70' It's been a good few days to be an Atletico Madrid fan, hasn't it? They now have a 4-1 lead over Eintracht Frankfurt, with Giuliano Simeone getting on the scoresheet this time, and have now scored nine goals in their last two games.

Tottenham on the board!

68' Tottenham muster a quick response to Jens Petter Hauge's second goal from a familiar opportunity -- set pieces. This time, it's Micky van de Ven with a header, charting his own redemption arc after he was called for a foul in the build-up to their disallowed goal earlier in the game. Game on in Norway.

Bodo/Glimt double their lead!

66' We're officially on upset watch in the Arctic Circle, where Bodo/Glimt now have a 2-0 lead over Tottenham Hotspur as Jens Petter Hauge bags a brace of his own. It really has not been a good night for Spurs, who have lacked energy for the most part today.

Lautaro Marinez's turn for a brace!

65' Inter are putting the game out of reach for Slavia Praha, the Italian side now taking a 3-0 lead as Lautaro Martinez completes the brace. Piotr Zielinski connects with Marcus Thuram and in the end, he sets up Francesco Pio Esposito to assist Martinez for a goal from close range.

Goalkeeper change for Liverpool

56' Alisson makes an all-important save as Victor Osimhen looks determined to score a second for Galatasaray, but it's the goalkeeper's last big action of the game. He picks up an injury and has to come off, so Giorgi Mamardashvili comes on in his place. It marks Mamardashvili's second Liverpool appearance and his first-ever Champions League game and a monumental task is ahead of him as the Reds look to get back into the game -- all while maintaining defensive resolve.

VAR rules out Tottenham equalizer

56' It appeared Bodo/Glimt's lead may have been short-lived as Rodrigo Bentancur scored off a corner, earning redemption after conceding a penalty that the hosts went on to miss but after a VAR check, Micky van de Ven is called for a tug on a shirt and so the goal is called back.

A fourth for Marseille!

52' Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang adds a goal to his two assists today, with Igor Paixao exchanging the favor after the pair combined for a first half goal! Paixao plays a ball in the box to Aubameyang, who scores from close range but more impressively, celebrates with a flip in the air. Stylish way to mark a standout day for Marseille, who now have a 4-0 lead against Ajax.

Bodo/Glimt with a stunner!

53' The last goalless game of the game is goalless no more as Bodo/Glimt takes a 1-0 lead over Tottenham Hotspur! Jens Petter Hauge's curling shot from an angle lands in the back of the net for a deserved lead for his side, giving them a chance to take their revenge after Spurs booted them from the UEFA Europa League semifinals in May en route to winning the trophy.

One more for Atletico!

45'+1 Julian Alvarez connects with Antoine Griezmann and the former France international scores, doing so a few short days after getting on the scoresheet in Atletico's 5-2 win over Real Madrid. Diego Simeone's side are running away with it now and are sure to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Pafos are on the board!

45' They may be on the wrong side of a heavy defeat already but Pafos will at least exit this match with a contender for the best goal of the day courtesy of Mislav Orsic, who hits a screamer from distance and scores against Bayern Munich with the type of goal that's impossible for any 'keeper to save.

Harry Kane completes the brace!

34' Harry Kane darts down the left flank and leaves several Pafos players behind him before nutmegging goalkeeper Neofytos Michael to give Bayern Munich a 4-0 lead over Pafos. There may still be about an hour left on the clock but it's clear that the Germans will be going home with all three points today.

Inter make it two!

34' Inter now have a 2-0 lead over Slavia Praha, bagging their second goal in four minutes. Francesco Acerbi sends the ball Marcus Thuram's way and in the end it falls to Denzel Dumfries, whose tap-in is more than enough to finish the job.

Bodo/Glimt miss a penalty!

35' Rodrigo Bentancur is called for a foul on Fredrik Andre Bjorkan and Bodo/Glimt earn a penalty against Tottenham Hotspur but Kasper Hogh wastes the golden opportunity and sends the ball straight over the net! It isn't his first time doing so this season, either -- he missed a penalty against Slavia Praha on Matchday 1.

Atletico bag another!

33' Atletico Madrid are really enjoying themselves against Eintracht Frankfurt and they bag a second goal along the way, this time with Robin Le Normand on the scoresheet. The center back's been busy on that end of the pitch -- he also scored in the 5-2 win over Real Madrid on Saturday.

A third for Bayern!

31' Nicolas Jackson is left alone in the box by a handful of Pafos defender, making it easy work for the forward to bag his first goal for Bayern. The German champions are up 3-0 in Cyprus, the game quickly slipping out of reach for the Champions League newcomers.

Inter are on the board!

30' Slavia Praha are in possession as goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek receives the ball and sends it back out into play. His short pass is easily intercepted by Lautaro Martinez, who wastes no time popping the ball straight into the back of the net.

A third for Marseille

26' Mason Greenwood makes it 3-0 for Marseille, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again notching the assist, but one has to ask -- what are Ajax doing? Giveaway after giveaway means they're down three goals before the half-hour mark, their Champions League return not at all what they might have hoped it would be. The Dutch side have now conceded five goals (and counting) in two games and have yet to score one of their own.

Make it two for Bayern!

20' That was fast! Michael Olise sends the ball Raphael Guerreiro's way and he executes a give-and-go with Nicolas Jackson before he sends the ball into the back of the net to give Bayern a 2-0 lead at Pafos. It might just be a long night for the Cypriot side, who are in the midst of their first-ever Champions League campaign.

Chelsea in front!

18' It may have been the Jose Mourinho Show to start proceedings at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea eventually get down to business and take the lead -- with a little bit of help. The Blues' offense looks bright as they go for goal but in the end, Richard Ríos scores an own goal to give them the lead.

15' Harry Kane extends his reputation as his generation's most reliable goalscorer and opens the scoring for Bayern at Pafos, giving them an early head start as they target a second win in two Champions League games this season.

Galatasaray take the lead over Liverpool!

17' The referee rules that Dominik Szoboszlai fouls Baris Alper Yıimaz in the box, albeit a bit controversially, and Victor Osimhen converts the penalty to give Galatasaray over Liverpool. The Reds may be right to complain about the call but Szoboszlai has not exactly been at his best at right back, which raises questions about Arne Slot's choice to play him there while Jeremie Frimpong plays in a right wing position.

Marseille double their lead!

12' Igor Paixao is making the most of his opportunities, completing a brace in almost no time at all. This time, Marseille take advantage of a giveaway from Davy Klaassen and Paixao hits it from distance, the ball flying into the back of the net. Marseille are fully in control of this one and can already picture their first win of the season in Europe, while Ajax look poised to open their Champions League return with two losses in two.

Marseille in the lead!

6' Marseille are now up 1-0 on Ajax thanks to a stellar team goal, starting with Facundo Medina's ball to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The ball eventually lands at Igor Paixao's feet and he scores from close range, making a quick impact. He's in the lineup in the place of USMNT winger Timothy Weah, who starts this one on the bench.

Atletico Madrid on the board!

4' Atletico Madrid are the first team playing in the late window to get on the scoresheet, Diego Simeone's side keeping an attacking play alive so Giacomo Raspadori can eventually finish from close range. They're up 1-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt.
