Liverpool vs. Arsenal: Reds stay perfect in Premier League as Mane, Robertson, Jota score in comeback win
Liverpool scored twice in the first half to take control of this match after trailing early

Liverpool's perfect start to the Premier League season continued on Monday with a 3-1, come-from-behind victory over previously undefeated Arsenal. The Reds, who are now 3-0-0 at the start of their title defense, conceded a goal off a mistake in the 25th minute but bounced back quickly with two goals in seven minutes, the first coming three minutes after going down.
Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead on an awkward finish inside the box after Andy Robertson's failed clearance, but it was Sadio Mane who quickly equalized with a tap-in moments later.
Then Robertson redeemed himself with the winner, finishing a ball in box after being left unmarked. New signing Diogo Jota added the third late with a delightful finish at the top of the box as Jurgen Klopp's team got revenge after losing to the Londoners in the Community Shield match last month.
The win moves Liverpool to the top of the table on points with Leicester City and Everton.
Arsenal finish the day in fifth.
Here are three takeaways from the game:
1. Liverpool back to top form with tremendous energy
The Reds were fantastic, and it feels like they are only getting better. The attacking creativity and unselfishness was there, but the defensive pressure that they applied in numbers gave the Gunners so many problems. The goals will come, and the defense is sharp too, but after that rough showing against Leeds in the opening 4-3 win, they have erased any real defensive doubts.
2. That Arsenal defending ...
Arsenal's attack has been sharp, and their defense has been improved, but they dearly missed summer signing Gabriel here. With David Luiz leading the back line, you just knew what was going to happen. The marking wasn't very sharp, especially on the winner where Hector Bellerin went to head the ball and nearly got it, but there was nobody covering behind him, allowing Robertson to bag the winner. Take a look:
Without Gabriel, the defense is simply average, maybe even a tad lower.
And Luiz just didn't have a good night (more on that below).
3. Good signs from Jota early on
The transfer of Diogo Jota from Wolves kind of came out of nowhere, but if his 10-minute debut is a sign of what is to come, then this is a move that is really going to work. Jota, after 16 goals last season, came on for Mane in the 80th minute and had a few great looks on goal. It looked like his night would be one of wasted chances, until he delivered with a fantastic debut goal that was assisted by ... Arsenal's Luiz.
The Portuguese winger adds depth, and now he looks like a serious weapon for the title favorites. What a finish.
Liverpool 3, Arsenal 1 (FT)
⚽ Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette (25')
⚽ Liverpool: Sadio Mane (28')
⚽ Liverpool: Andrew Robertson (34')
⚽ Liverpool: Diogo Jota (88')
3-1! Game over! Jota with a fine debut goal!
Just over 20 minutes to go as Arsenal push forward in numbers. Liverpool not shying away about a third as Mane misses just wide.
