Liverpool vs. Chelsea score, highlights: Mason Mount lifts Blues into top four as Reds' slump continues
Chelsea are in the Premier League's top four after picking up three big points on the road

Chelsea are up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 1-0 win away at Liverpool on Thursday. Mason Mount was the sole goal scorer at Anfield on a night where the champions fell further behind in the race for European qualification.
Timo Werner thought that he had given Thomas Tuchel's men the lead when he hit the back of the net after 24 minutes, but Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) had other ideas and chalked the Germany international's effort offside. The Blues did eventually go ahead through Mount on 42 minutes after the Englishman was fed by N'Golo Kante before producing a fine curling finish past Alisson and Liverpool were unable to find their way back after that.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure on the touchline and not for the first time this season as the hosts failed to muster the sort of intensity that the German tactician has come to expect from his troops. Tuchel was the main beneficiary as he hand-crafted a gameplan that worked to perfection and secured another three-point haul and yet another clean sheet while defensive commander Thiago Silva remains absent.
Liverpool, who lost their fifth consecutive home Premier League match, have now lost eight of their last 14 games across all competitions. The Reds drifting from qualification for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Arsenal closing in.
Liverpool 0, Chelsea 1
A big win for Chelsea and another damaging loss for Liverpool. The Blues are in mean form under Tuchel while the Reds continues to suffer under Klopp.
I know that injuries and COVID-related fitness issues have played a big part, but it is hard not to look at Liverpool and remember Dortmund's struggles under Klopp towards the end of his time there. He only knows one way which eventually takes a toll on the squad and perhaps that is what we are seeing this season in expedited fashion.
Big three-point haul this if Chelsea can see it out.
Salah looked far from impressed at that decision. Mane takes his place on the right with Jota down the left.
This has been a very underwhelming first 10 minutes from Liverpool, who seem to be inviting pressure in the central areas, unable to get in behind or move the ball up to the front three quickly and guilty of basic errors such as running at N'Golo Kante. There's no guile or vision from the champions and it has to be said that Thiago has been a non-factor in that regard.
Plenty of credit is of course owed to Chelsea for how they've executed their gameplan to perfection it is worth noting just how poor Liverpool have been. They haven't really shown much willingness to drop back deep and snuff out space for Werner and the other forwards, have looked rather haphazard in possession and the less said about how Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho both allowed Mount to cut onto his right foot the better.
