FT: PSG 0-1 Bayern
Coman's goal is the difference. PSG have it all to do after a woeful showing. Pavard's red card ultimately made no difference.

Kingsley Coman punished his former club once again, this time scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for Bayern Munich at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Tuesday. The Paris-born France international, scorer of the only goal in the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon when these two teams met for the ultimate prize, finished a volley in the 53rd minute to give his team the advantage ahead of next month's second leg.. Though he didn't hit the ball as cleanly as he would have liked, Coman's effort had a little bit of pace on it, seeing PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma completely fumble what should have been an easy save.
The Italian goalkeeper would go on to make two fantastic saves later in the half, but the damage was already done, with the PSG attack doing very little, continuing what has been a poor run of form.

The introduction of Kylian Mbappe in the second half, on the bench to start as he has dealt with a hamstring injury, saw the hosts look like a threat, something that did not happen without him. He had two goals disallowed in the second half due to being offside as the Bavarians depart the French capital with all of the momentum.
Bayern finished the match with 18 shots, double that of PSG, putting seven on frame to the Parisians' four. The visitors were on the front-foot early with tons of possession despite not many chances, increasing their production in the final third as the game went on.
Without Sadio Mane, the team has continued to get results and are now 21 games unbeaten.
Coman's goal is the difference. PSG have it all to do after a woeful showing. Pavard's red card ultimately made no difference.
The Bayern man is dismissed for a foul on Messi. He was booked earlier in the game, but the referee had no hesitation in ejecting the Frenchman.
A Mendes offside means Mbappe has now had two goals disallowed since coming on. Messi just went close too.
Bayern remain in front as Mbappe has a goal disallowed for offside. The Swiss shot stopper showed great reflexes to keep both Mbappe and then Neymar out as PSG finally created some chances.
Donnarumma has raised his game since his mistake with two good saves to deny Bayern. Choupo Moting is denied by the Italian and the post and the Azzurri star then keeps out a headed effort.
Coman opens the scoring against his former club! That man is on target again after the 2020 final. Donnarumma should do better, though. Mbappe is about to come on for the hosts.
Kimpembe for Hakimi is an interesting one as it will not solve things for the hosts in attack. However, the word is that Hakimi has hurt his thigh. Mbappe continues to warm up on the touchline as this second half gets underway.
The players you would expect to stand up in a scrappy game have done so thus far for the hosts. Ramos and Pereira have had two of the more convincing first half displays. However, the less said about the attack the better... Still no shot on target for PSG and no real openings created at all!
As we reach the 25th minute, it's nearly 60% possession for Bayern Munich but with just three shots to show for it, one on frame with a weak Coman chance just being stopped easily. PSG have yet to record a single shot as they look to go on the counter to create damage.
The hosts are not playing with enough urgency for the first 20 minutes or so. Their performance has been a bit subdued until now while Bayern are happy to maintain their general control of proceedings and then probe for openings. The visitors do not look flustered on the ball and their fans are creating a good amount of noise.
Interesting first 10 minutes or so where both sides have been getting a feel for the game and each other. Bayern's setup is particularly interesting in that it switches between a three and four-man defense. Neither side has had a truly clear-cut chance, but PSG did threaten to open up Bayern before Zaire Emery's pass was snuffed out.
The ultras definitely had a treat in store with various tifos and the volume has well and truly been turned up now by both sets of fans!
Coming at you live from Parc des Princes! The atmosphere is extremely muted so far, but we have been told to expect some intense ultra action so stay tuned. The quiet build-up could be an explosive atmosphere brewing, or it could be the reflection of a fanbase feeling very vulnerable right now.
The tables have turned since Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich were drawn together in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 in November. At the time, the unbeaten French capital outfit appeared to have received a somewhat favorable tie with the Bavarians a bit sluggish domestically and then Sadio Mane getting injured before losing Lucas Hernandez too. However, Tuesday's first leg (3 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+) now appears to have come at the worst possible timing for PSG with Christophe Galtier's men struggling and Bayern looking the stronger of the two.
Mane is still out for Julian Nagelsmann's side and the German tactician appears to have been right about Kylian Mbappe being passed fit for their Parc des Princes clash. It is not just the injury and availability stakes that have been leveled out, though, with Les Parisiens' form dropping off a cliff since the FIFA 2022 World Cup as the Bundesliga leaders rested.
We compared the two clubs and their situations coming into this one.
PSG XI: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Ramos, Marqhuinos, Nuno Mendes; Danilo, Verratti, Soler; Messi, Neymar, Zaire-Emery.
Bayern XI: Sommer; Pavard, De Ligt, Upamecano; Cancelo, Kimmich, Goretka, Musiala; Chupo-Moting, Coman, Sane.
"You can only do it as a team," said Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann on Monday evening ahead of the game. "We have to cut out the passes to Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. They have also got full-backs with a lot of pace. They have a number of really talented players. PSG will also be thinking about how to stop our players. The teams' performances on the day will be what decides a game like this. We will try to be brave here -- it is a tie between two similarly strong teams. We will try to put in a good performance away from home. I am really confident we will and that we will get a good result. We have had good results recently. We are doing well again in the Bundesliga and were solid in the DFB Pokal. PSG also had some issues due to the number of players they had on international duty."
"It was one of the biggest moments of my career," added Kingsley Coman of his 2020 Champions League final winner vs. Tuesday's hosts. "The goal gave me such a huge boost, but it is a long time ago now. It is a nice memory and I also like looking back on my time at PSG."
"We are not used to losing -- PSG wins games so losing knocks us," said PSG's Neymar on Monday at the pre-game press conference when asked about a spat with sporting advisor Luis Campos in Monaco. "That is how you improve, though. As for the locker room, lies sometimes come out in the press and travel around the globe. Rumors have come out at key moments this season and we need to find out why. It is not normal that stories come out in the press that should stay between us. When information like that leaks, we get angry. I can guarantee you that much of it is wrong although some of it is true.
"Every game has its history. I love playing these big games, against great players, great clubs. It is in these moments that great players shine the most. It will not be an easy match because Bayern Munich have great players. Our biggest goal is the Champions League. We will have to pay attention to the details. The Champions League is like the World Cup, the team that makes the fewest mistakes goes the furthest. We know the difficulties but we have a lot of quality. We know what we can do."
"Kylian is extremely important for the team," added the Brazilian on Mbappe. "When we are all on the pitch, we feel stronger. I hope he can play some minutes on Tuesday. He is doing well and feeling good. They are good signs, good indications. I think he has recovered well."

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been in inspired form of late and it seems likely that the Italian will have to be at his absolute best if PSG are to have any hope of advancing to the Champions League quarterfinals. Bayern are vulnerable at the back, but can still pose a threat going forward and Les Parisiens have not been impressive defensively since the resumption of club action post-World Cup. -Jonathan Johnson
Eric Maxim Choupo Moting wasted no time in scoring against PSG for Bayern when he came up against his former side. The Cameroon international has hit impressive form this season and it feels nailed on that he will find the net again here across the two legs in this tie. -Jonathan Johnson
Joao Cancelo was an unexpected coup for Bayern Munich in the January transfer window. His addition to the Germans' back line changes their complexion both defensively, but also on the right side where the Portugal international has played so far. PSG's starting XI will depend on which star names are ultimately passed fit for the Parc des Princes clash. However, the prospect of Nuno Mendes getting forward on the same side of the pitch as Cancelo could make that one of the main positions to watch as these two Portuguese talents battle for supremacy. -Jonathan Johnson
Another PSG vs. Bayern Munich battle on the horizon. As you may recall, they met in the 2019-20 final during COVID when the end of the competition was moved. The final, set for Istanbul, took place in Libson with Bayern coming away as 1-0 winners. It was Paris-born Kingsley Coman, a former PSG player, who scored the winning goal on that day, denying Kylian Mbappe and the French giants their first UCL title.
On the Bayern side, Canada international Alphonso Davies is expected to start as a substitute with Joao Cancelo beginning the game at left-back. The Germans have a number of players returning to PSG including Eric Maxim Choupo Moting and 2020 Champions League winner Kingsley Coman.
Probable Bayern XI: Sommer; Pavard, Upamecano, De Ligt, Cancelo; Kimmich, Goretzka; Muller (c), Musiala, Coman; Choupo-Moting.
The latest team news regarding PSG is that Kylian Mbappe is expected to be a substitute after returning from injury to make the squad here. Keep an eye on 16-year-old Warren Zaire Emery who is expected to start for PSG on a big occasion for the wonderkid. There is more on the French superstar and Christophe Galtier's expected starting XI here.
Probable PSG XI: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Ramos, Marquinhos (c), Mendes; Zaire Emery, Pereira, Verratti, Soler; Messi, Neymar.
