Real Madrid vs. Galatasaray score: Toni Kroos gives Real its first win of Champions League season
Real scored in the first half and held on for all three points
Real Madrid's Champions League campaign is back on track. After failing to win its opening two matches in the group stage, the Spanish club picked up three massive points at Galatasaray on Tuesday to move into second place in Group A. Zinedine Zidane's side dominated the match, despite the close scoreline, bu an inspired Fernando Muslera in goal kept the Turkish side in it for the entire 90 minutes. Toni Kroos scored the winning goal in the first half on an Eden Hazard assist, while Madrid had 27 shots and 13 on goal in the match.
Here's the winning goal from Kroos:
Galatasaray had three shots on goal, all of which were in the first half, and all of which were saved beautifully be Thibaut Courtois in what was his best performance since joining Real Madrid. For the entire second half, it felt like there was another goal in it for either, but most likely Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane's team had numerous chances, especially on the counter, yet couldn't provide themselves a bit of insurance. In the end, they didn't need it, moving to four points in Group A, where they have a two-point cushion over Club Brugge. PSG is a perfect 3-0-0 and tops the group, while Galatasaray is last with an 0-1-2 record and no goals scored in three matches.
These two will meet again in Spain on Nov. 6 for Matchday 4, where Galatasaray is facing a must-win match if it has any hope of making it to the round of 16.
This shutout was Real's first since Sept. 28, having conceded five goals in its previous three games. Real had won just one of its last four games in all competitions entering this match.
Final: Real Madrid 1-0 Galatasaray
15 minutes to go now. Real Madrid with 25 shots and 11 on frame. It's been all them, but Muslera has kept his team in it with several strong saves. Still a chance there for the Turkish side to grab a bite and spoil Real's day.
65' Again nearly a goal for Real Madrid! Benzema gets around Muslera inside the box with a touch and fires a rocket that hits the crossbar and goes out! Galatasaray hanging around.
59' Another absolutely fantastic chance for Real Madrid on the counter following a delightful steal by Marcelo. Hazard sends Benzema down the left, and he plays it back to the Belgian, but his powerful shot at the front post is saved well by Muslera.
It's an absolutely brilliant ball from Kroos to Benzema with one touch, and the Frenchman gets off a great shot with a defender on him, but his powerful effort is saved well by Muslera. Nearly 2-0 there.
At the break, a deserved lead for Real Madrid at 1-0 with Kroos' goal. But let's be honest here -- Courtois has saved Real three times in tie first half with some key saves. Los Blancos are 45 minutes from their first win of the group stage.
