Sevilla vs. AS Roma score: Spanish side advances to Europa League quarterfinals

sevulla.jpg

Sevilla scored twice in the first half and dominated Roma, 2-0, on Thursday in the Europa League round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals. In a match that was just one leg due to the inability to play a first leg in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was the Spanish side that thoroughly outplayed the Italian side in Germany. Sevilla hit the crossbar in the first half but continued attacking as Sergio Reguilon and Youssef En-Nesryi scored the goals for Julen Lopetegui's side.

The victory sends Sevilla into the last eight where they will play the winner of Wolverhampton and Olympiacos. Roma is eliminated from the competition and will return to Europa League play next season after qualifying thanks to its fifth-place finish in Serie A.

Sevilla 2, Roma 0 (FT)

⚽ Sevilla: Sergio Reguilon (21')
⚽ Sevilla: Youssef En-Nesyri (44')

70' That might just do it for Roma! Dzeko with a turn and sliced strike inside the box that looked good, but it went just wide. Time running out.

A fantastic first half for the Spanish side. A foot into the quarterfinals now. More goals to come surely as Roma has to step up the urgency. A wild second half to come.

It's a bit better from Roma now as they are getting forward against a high Sevilla line, but the passing isn't sharp. A bit too much pace behind the balls through to Dzeko.

22' Goal Sevilla! 1-0! A fine sprint forward by Reguilon! and he fires home and low! Goalkeeper should have done better.
