WWE Raw results, review, grades: John Cena completes career grand slam in Boston finale; WarGames matches set
Cena's retirement is drawing near, and he left Boston with a bang Monday night
WWE legend John Cena's time as an active wrestler is quickly coming to a close, but he's not done making history. During his penultimate appearance on Monday Night Raw -- his final show in front of his hometown fans in Boston -- Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio in a surprise opening match to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The Intercontinental title was the lone major achievement Cena had not conquered in his WWE career. By hoisting the strap onto his shoulder, Cena has joined an exclusive club in becoming a Grand Slam Champion. He has held the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, United States Championship and now Intercontinental Championship.
The upcoming WarGames matches at Survivor Series also took shape for both the men and women on an action-packed night in Boston.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from TD Garden in Boston.
John Cena makes history once again
After being introduced by Triple H at the top of the show, John Cena talked about how his goal in his retirement tour has been to leave the business better than he found it. Included in that is that, on the night of his last match, Saturday Night's Main Event will feature WWE superstars hosting "exhibition matches" against the brightest stars from NXT. As Cena continued to talk, he was interrupted by Dominik Mysterio. After some jawing back and forth between the two men, including Mysterio claiming he is not in his prime and is already better than Cena ever has been, Mysterio took things a step too far by suggesting he would face Cena any time, any place, anywhere. Triple H stepped in and said that sounded like a good plan, and told Mysterio he would defend the Intercontinental Championship against Cena immediately.
Intercontinental Championship -- John Cena def. Dominik Mysterio (c) via pinfall to win the title. After Cena cut off an early run from Mysterio, Mysterio attempted to walk to the back and take a countout loss. Cena cut off Mysterio's attempt to leave, but was tossed into the ring steps for his trouble. This allowed Mysterio to gain control of the match until Cena fired up and began to hit his classic "Five Moves of Doom." Mysterio looked to take a shortcut by undoing a turnbuckle pad and using the distraction to grab a steel chair before pretending Cena had hit him with it. Cena did the same in return, leaving the referee confused. In the ensuing confusion, Cena went for an Attitude Adjustment, only for Mysterio to kick the referee. With the referee down, Mysterio tapped out to an STFU. Mysterio then attempted to use his championship belt as a weapon but ate an Attitude Adjustment. A second attitude adjustment came shortly after, with Cena rolling through a pin after a Mysterio frog splash, this time getting the three count and securing Cena the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career. Cena can now call himself a WWE Grand Slam Champion. Monday was a good episode of Raw with things happening that had weight and provided forward momentum. That has been increasingly rare in recent months, but we need to take the good times where we get them. Grade: A-

- Maxxine Dupri was given a shot at Becky Lynch and the women's intercontinental championship. The match will take place next Monday. After Pearce informed Dupri of the opportunity, Dupri was blindsided by Lynch.
- CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso brawled with Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker and Logan Paul. The situation started when Punk called out Paul after Paul's attack the previous Monday. Paul came to the ring with Reed, Breakker and Paul Heyman in tow. Punk offered to fight everyone by himself, but was quickly joined by Uso and Rhodes before a brawl broke out. Later in the night, Punk, Rhodes and Uso went to Adam Pearce and said to tell Heyman to get a team together before calling in William Regal to deliver his trademark yell of "WarGames!"
- Women's World Championship -- Stephanie Vaquer (c) def. Raquel Rodriguez via pinfall with a corkscrew moonsault. Roxanne Perez attempted to attack Vaquer after the match, but Nikki Bella, who was ringside, came in for the save. After Rodriguez and Perez left the ring, Bella laid out Vaquer with the title belt.
- The Last Time Is Now Tournament opening round -- Sheamus def. Shinsuke Nakamura via pinfall with a Brogue Kick to advance to the next round of the tournament.
- Women's Tag Team Championship – The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) def. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair (c) via pinfall when Sane hit Bliss with an Insane Elbow. Flair and Bliss had the match won before interference from Lash Legend and Nia Jax. After the match, Iyo Sky had to run in to save Bliss and Flair from a beatdown by all four women. When Sky wasn't enough to get the job done, Rhea Ripley ran in to even the odds, helping Flair, Bliss and Sky run everyone off. Ripley then grabbed a microphone and screamed, "WarGames!"
