WWE Raw results, grades: CM Punk and Bron Breakker set for Jan. 5 world heavyweight title match
Breakker will have the opportunity to capture his first world title in just over one month
At Survivor Series on Saturday, the men's WarGames match ended with Bron Breakker pinning CM Punk. During Raw on Monday, Breakker managed to parlay that pinfall into a future shot at Punk's world heavyweight championship.
Breakker's win wasn't without an asterisk, as a masked man ran into the cage and hit Punk with a superkick and a stomp shortly before Breakker delivered the match-ending spear. The identity of that mystery man was not solved on Monday, but Breakker will have a shot to become a world champion for the first time in his career when he faces Punk on Jan. 5.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Bron Breakker set to challenge CM Punk for the world heavyweight title
Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker arrived early in the show, confronting general manager Adam Pearce. Heyman insisted he did not know who the masked man who interfered in WarGames was. Heyman then said they needed to talk because Breakker pinned world heavyweight champion CM Punk in WarGames.
Later in the night, Heyman and The Vision came to the ring. Heyman announced that Breakker would receive a world heavyweight championship match with Punk on the Jan. 5 episode of Raw. Breaker then cut a promo where he expressed frustration at the masked man for ruining his moment before saying he was disappointed in how easy it was to pin Punk. Breakker said Punk tried to break his neck and ruin his life, so now he would ruin Punk's career and life because Punk was nothing more than a veteran trying to cling to past glories.
This was a pretty standard episode of Raw, with nothing feeling very "in the moment" and everything focused on what's coming down the road. That said, it's probably best to quickly move on from a highly disappointing WarGames that left a bad taste in almost everyone's mouth. Breakker's promo was fiery, but wasn't quite as good as he seemed to think, as he announced, quite literally, what a great promo it was. Either way, it's nice to see a month-long build to a title match on Raw, and it will be interesting to see what direction WWE decides to go when Jan. 5 comes. Grade: B
