Josh Jackson pleads not guilty in vandalism case involving Kansas women's player
Jackson is a projected lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft
Kansas freshman Josh Jackson has pleaded not guilty to one misdemeanor count of criminal property damage alleging that he vandalized a woman's car outside a bar in December.
According to a report from KUSports.com, Jackson appeared in Douglas County District Court on Wednesday and was formally charged but submitted a not guilty plea through his attorney, Hatem Chahine, who said he planned to file a diversion for the Jayhawks star.
Jackson is accused of damaging the driver's side door and a taillight of the car belonging to Kansas women's basketball player McKenzie Calvert -- the ex-girlfriend of Jackson's teammate, Lagerald Vick.
Judge James George accepted Jackson's plea and ordered him to surrender himself to the jail by Friday, and his bond was set at $500.
Jackson, who averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds for the Jayhawks, did not miss any games stemming from the incident, but was instead punished in-house. He is a projected top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft but has not yet declared.
The judge scheduled Jackson to appear in court next on May 24 as his diversion is being processed. Jackson is also scheduled to appear Friday in Lawrence Municipal Court to address a Feb. 2 traffic violation.
