Kansas celebrated its No. 1 AP ranking on Monday with an impressive come-from-behind win over Oklahoma, thanks in part to the efforts of senior Frank Mason III who finished with a game-high 23 points. It was a fitting end for Mason, who led a 31-9 charge to close the game on senior night.

After the game he delivered his senior farewell in front of a sold out Allen Fieldhouse, and had every eye watering when he gave his son, 5-year-old Amari, a mention for his first ever game at KU.

“Everything I do is for you,” Mason said about his son. “I want you to grow up having a better life than I had and you really helped me become a better man and a better father everyday and I love you.”

Mason, who is by nature a stone-faced killer who rarely shows emotion, was in a unique setting in his home finale. He willed his team to a dramatic win in his final home game at KU, and did so during his son’s first game to watch him live as a Jayhawk. Even for a guy who is typically mild-mannered, those elements alone were enough to send him into a flurry of emotions as he stepped off the hardwood for one final time in front of the home crowd.
