Will Chip Kelly end up at Alabama? (USATSI)

Chip Kelly is no longer employed by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since Kelly was wildly successful in college football (46-7 record as Oregon's coach over four seasons with three top-five finishes), there is a belief that he might return to the college game.

Therefore, any connection between Kelly and a college football program is going to generate interest, especially when it's the Crimson Tide. According to ESPN's Brett McMurphy, Kelly visited with Alabama's coaching staff in Tuscaloosa earlier this week.

What does it mean? Probably that Kelly enjoys spending time with other football coaches and exchanging ideas. It's something that Kelly has done throughout his time as a coach and right now there are few places with more highly regarded staffs than the one Nick Saban has assembled in Tuscaloosa.

Does that mean Kelly will join Saban as an offensive coach? Does it mean Kelly will replace Saban? Will Saban and Chip Kelly be co-head coaches?!

Unlikely, no and definitely not.

Some of the initial reports after Kelly's dismissal from Philadelphia suggested that he wanted to remain in the NFL, or his next move might be somewhere more obscure than Alabama, but then again he could look for the same solace that Lane Kiffin has found in Tuscaloosa. Saban makes his assistants available to the media only a few times a year and otherwise lets them focus on coaching and preparation. For a coach looking to avoid the media, Tuscaloosa might be the perfect place to land.

But for now, we'll chalk this up as something fun to talk about, at least until after Alabama plays Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
