Flood moves LSU-South Carolina game from Columbia to Baton Rouge
Flooding in Columbia has forced South Carolina to move its home game against LSU to Death Valley.
South Carolina's home game against LSU has been moved to Baton Rouge because of the flooding throughout the Columbia area.
"It appears the best thing is to travel to LSU," Steve Spurrier said in an official release. "We look forward to the challenge and competing against the Tigers in Baton Rouge."
The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. Television information has not been set at this time.
"Our team, we want to do what’s right and what’s best for all concerned," Spurrier said Wednesday on the SEC teleconference, before the announcement. "Wherever is the right place to play this game, we’re for it. It’s in the hands of law enforcement, our athletic directors, president and our community. What’s best for victims of the flood is something we all have to take into very serious consideration. Wherever they tell us to go play this game, we’ll do our best to go compete against LSU."
Spurrier said the Gamecocks have been able to practice on dry fields this week, though classes were canceled at the beginning of the week due to the state of emergency from the flooding.
"With what has happened here in the state of South Carolina and the city of Columbia, football is not nearly as important or important at all when you think about it in that perspective," South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said Tuesday. "There are certainly lots of concerns with our families and people who live here in the Midlands. There are a lot of things to consider."
Tickets will be sold to LSU fans beginning Wednesday afternoon (you can access the purchasing information here) and the remainder of the tickets will go on sale for the general public on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. ET. While LSU students and season ticket holders will have first priority on purchasing tickets for the event, all of the proceeds will go back to South Carolina.
LSU is listed as a 13.5-point favorite against the Gamecocks.
