Purdue has found its new coach.

The Boilermakers announced the hiring of Western Kentucky's Jeff Brohm, as first reported by CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. The WKU team was informed of Brohm's departure at 8 a.m.

"We were fortunate to meet with many talented coaches from around the country during our search, and Jeff's name was one that rose to the top early in the process," Purdue athletic director Mike Bobinski said. "He is a coach who already has achieved tremendous success and, at the same time, has incredible upside. His reputation and record of accomplishment as an innovative offensive coach and developer of quarterbacks is second to none. That pedigree, combined with his commitment to developing the complete student-athlete and doing so with integrity makes him a perfect fit for Purdue University. I am extremely excited to have Jeff as our head football coach."

The former Louisville quarterback just finished his third season at Western Kentucky, going 10-3 and winning his second consecutive Conference USA title. In three seasons with the Hilltoppers, Brohm has a record of 30-10 and a conference record of 19-5.

Brohm spent years with his alma mater as an assistant under Bobby Petrino. It was there that Brohm learned and mastered the offense that he's run at other stops since, including as a quarterbacks coach at Florida Atlantic and Illinois, as well as as UAB's offensive coordinator.

In three seasons at Western Kentucky, Brohm's offenses have averaged 44.6 points and 526.1 yards per game. Compare that to Purdue's offense under Darrell Hazell, which never scored more than 25.1 points per game in any of Hazell's three plus seasons with the Boilermakers.

The hire of Brohm also helps take Purdue back to a pass-oriented system like the one Joe Tiller brought to West Lafayette in 1997. It was that pass-heavy attack -- as well as some dude named Drew Brees -- that helped lead to Purdue's last sustained run of success in the Big Ten.

That's the kind of success the Boilermakers hope Brohm can bring back to Purdue.

Defensive coordinator Nick Holt will serve as Western Kentucky's interim coach for the Boca Raton Bowl against Memphis.
