Carrera was diagnosed with a fractured right foot and placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.
Though he wasn't forced to exit Tuesday's game against the Rays early due to an injury, X-rays conducted afterward revealed that Carrera was dealing with a serious concern. It's not known whether Carrera will need surgery to address the fracture or if simply rest will do the trick, but either way, the outfielder's recovery timetable is likely to extend beyond the minimum 10 days. Dwight Smith was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, and he'll enter the starting lineup in left field Wednesday.
